Excellent Pediatric Care

Dr. Hugh Black was my daughters Cystic Fibrosis specialist for 10 years. She was physically ill all of her life and underwent many surgeries, constant medications, intravenous feeds, IV medications, along with maintenance nebulizer treatments and chest PTs. His care was magnificent. He managed her care as if she were his only patient. If he was unsure about an antibiotic (because she was on antibiotics chronically we began to exhaust our possibilities) he would get in contact with other doctors at Chapel Hill and research every possibility out there. He took care of my daughter as if she were his own. He always returned my phone calls, made sure our family had a way to reach him at any time of the day or night, sometimes calling to check on her in the late evenings and discussing with me the situation as it appeared at that time. He is very thorough in all that he does. Somehow he remembers every detail from office visits, current and past medications, and keeps up with any other specialists who may be involved in their medical care. He has a passion for the medical profession and the children under his care. He became a part of our family and was as active as we were in waging war against this disease. I couldn't have imagined getting thru this without his care. He is a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate doctor who will be an advocate for your child. I highly recommend him.

His office staff is kind and personable. His nurses are upbeat, positive, interact well with children and parents, and are quick to return phone calls. They are also very involved in each patients care. If you are looking for a pediatric allergist or pulmonologist this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed.

Great with Children!

Two of my children have asthma and allergy related problems. They have been under the care of Dr. Black for almost 4 years now and we have never had a complaint. The office is efficient, the nurses are friendly and knowledgeable, and Dr. Black is amazing with children. He let my 2 year old sit in his lap and "check" her own ear while struggling with a nasty ear infection. It kept my child calm and the ear cover instantly became a finger puppet. The triage nurses are very prompt and you ALWAYS get a call back. I highly recommend the office.
