I would rank sonnys as average as far as the food goes.....not the best tasting barbq in charlotte but yet the service is pretty good. I would choose the Old Hickory House over this place anyday for the food

I have eaten BBQ all over the usa .. I grew up in florida and was raised on sonny's BBQ .... There has never been nor will there ever be any better BBQ than Sonny's

What a disappointment. With all the great bbq in town, this just may be the worst one. I have given it 2 tries, but will not go back. I will NEVER go back. Bland sauce.
Try one of the areas many bbq places and it will be a better experience than this place.
- Pros: none
Cold, Fatty and Tastes Bad
by Laura at Citysearch
The food is horrible! They bring you sliced or chopped unseasoned meat which is already cold when it comes to your table, then expect you to pour cold sauces out of sticky squirt bottles on the table on it and call it barbeque.
The first meat I received had so much fat on it that even the waitress took pity on me when she saw me trying to pick thru the chopped meat. She suggested sliced meat, to avoid as much fat as possible. The second serving of meat looked better (I could cut off the fat), but tasted like tender, dry, cold, leather. I tried 2-3 sauces. Cold unseasoned meat dipped in cold bad sauces don't add up to BBQ.
I've grown up eating BBQ from all over. I love both vinegar and tomato based. Sonny's does NOT measure up.
- Pros: Inexpensive, All-You-Can-Eat Times, Good parking
- Cons: Tastes Bad, Too much fat, Sauces are cold
Surprised, and bloated like a stuck pig

For a chain, this place had some good bbq. Pulled pork a little on the dry side, beans were great, ribs a liitle dry too. On the whole, good food.
Plentiful isn't here

While the food is good, I didn't find it at all outstanding. And on a dollar per pound basis, this is probably the worst BBQ value I've encountered in Charlotte. Large pieces of bread and french fries cover 80% of your plate while BBQ portions are very small. The variety of sauces offered is a plus. Staff is friendly, although sometimes a little slow at peak hours due to the staff to customer ratio.
- Pros: friendly staff, accessible locations, variety of sauces
- Cons: small portions
