the rustic interior is nice--famous old history to that little building....the food is fabulous.....Carters have been in the BBQ for over 50 years!!!! This particular location opened up in Feb of 1972, so that speaks for itself.....get the stew, beans, hushpuppies, pork chopped, sliced, ribs, beef or chicken. tea is the BEST sweet tea ever! there have even been some famous people in there for their food as well...the Carters are great people, just slide right up to the counter and say hello! the owners are right there preparing the plates!
- Pros: fast service, great food
- Cons: wish i lived closer

I've been going to this place for over 25 years and it's still the same as when I was a kid. Great service, the staff just make you feel like a regular whether it's your first time or your 50th time. The Bruswick stew is awesome, and is the BBQ. You can request no sauce if you prefer it that way. The atmosphere is old timey, with wooden booths and 20+ year old chairs and covered wagons on the lights at each booth.

We used to live in the area and would love to go to the Old Hickory House, now that we live out of state we make sure we make time to grab gallons of stew to bring back with us each time we visit Charlotte. Everything we have ever ordered there has been awesome. Check it out you won't be disappointed
- Pros: large portions great value
- Cons: closed on Sundays

Old Hickory House Restaurant serves up some of the finest BBQ in NC. Their brunswick stew is some that makes me drool just writing about it. I cannot wait until my next trip to Charlotte to come here to eat again. I've come here for years since I was a child and let's just say I'm in my 50's now. :)

This quaint little place may not look busy at times, but the FAST and FRIENDLY service will make you FEEL RIGHT AT HOME and wonder why you don't GO there MORE OFTEN!!! The home-made sauce is to die for, sweet and tangy, made just right for the taste buds!!! There is MORE MEAT on the sandwiches than most places think about putting on theirs-and for the price, you CAN NOT beat it!!! The plates you get 2 sides and the sweet tea is the BEST sweet tea ever tasted!!! The Carter family has been running this place for over 40 years and they are very genuine and sincere and worth the few miles to get there!!!!!!!!!! GO EAT AND ENJOY!!!!!! They now have TV's for the view while you eat.............
- Pros: rustic style, kid friendly, fast service
- Cons: parking in front

Old Hickory House is a classic BBQ haunt. Real hickory wood embers glowing red impart their smoky flavor to the slow cooked pork and beef treats. Every time I visit the Queen City, I make it a point to stop and smell the smoke ! I consider myself to be a BBQ expert if there is such a thing. The service is great and the food is even better. I usually get the chopped pork plate with a side of ribs, cole slaw, Brunswick stew, hushpuppies and a big old sweet tea. AHHHH! now that's living !!!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Service, Free Parking
- Cons: I don't live near it

I went here based on the rankings from this site and that it was voted best BBQ in Charlotte.....I have had much better.
Also, this place is far from being a "romantic" atmosphere.
- Pros: good french fries, uncrowded
- Cons: bbq watered down

The B-B-Q is done just right and the brunswick stew is worth a pilgrimage from anywhere in the U.S.!! The meat is tender, seasoned, and in a perfectly-spiced sauce!! And, for goodness sakes, get the brunswick stew!!
