If you hear someone call this the "Old Coliseum," take note. You've got a rare Charlotte old-timer on your hands.

The Skinny
Newcomers to the Queen City may use the official moniker, Independence Arena (or even the Big "I") but this building remains for many Charlotteans the first Coliseum in town. Now, with the naming rights sold to Cricket Communication, it is known as Cricket Arena. Built decades ago, the shiny, metal-domed building was a significant architectural achievement in its day. Today, well, let's say it's a distinctive landmark. You'll know it when you see it.
The Arena hosts the Charlotte Checkers, college basketball, ice skating competitions and shows, pro wrestling, and more. It's a fun place to go, and one of the few "old" things proudly remaining in Charlotte. Parking can get tight if the adjacent venues are busy at the same time, so make sure you leave for your event early.
