Avoid, worst burger, very Dirty place

by Lbrown2 at Citysearch

After almost 10 years, I was suprised Lupie's has still not been cleaned. Filfthy! Carpet is so gross it does not even resemble carpet. Bacteria is going wild there and on chairs, tables, everywhere. My husbands food had a fly wing in it.

Worst burger I have ever had. Dry, overcooked. Chili had no taste. I know now why it was almost empty on a Friday night at 7pm. I will never go back. Service was ok.

  • Pros: service
  • Cons: bad food, dirty place

Very much a neighborhood joint type place

by montgomeryburns at Citysearch

Finally got around to eating here after hearing about and reading about this place. It's very casual. Got there just in time - seated right away, and 10 minutes later there was a line out the door. We split the vegetarian burger and the vegetarian chili. The burger was average - don't get mustard on it - it overpowers all the other flavors and even wiping it off won't make it go away. The vegetarian chili was pretty good - if you're used to meat chili, you'll definitely notice the difference, but if you're OK with meat substitutes, it's good. You go there for the scene and for affordable food. Not the best food you'll ever eat, but a good experience.

  • Pros: dark, almost punk rock environment
  • Cons: food was alright

Over Rated

by weaver704 at Citysearch

I have tried this place several times now and I am calling it quits. The food is medeocre at best. Burgers are ok but I can find a better burger at dozen places in Charlotte. I had the worst piece of meatloaf ther I have ever had, it was actually inedible and it was the daily special! It tasted like it had sand in it, it was really grainy. I have heard so many people talk about how good this place is and I guess people have different tastes but I think the food is bad. Also the menu is very limited. You would think that as few things as they have on the menu they would have perfected them all.

  • Pros: None I can think of
  • Cons: Mediocre food.

Horrible Customer Service

by libbaquinn at Citysearch

I would like to say that I have been a loyal customer to Lupie's ever since I moved to Charlotte. However, I have never had the displeasure of meeting Lupie myself. The reason I mention this is because as we all know that Lupie's is known for there generous portions. The other night my husband and I split a Chef salad and we could not believe our eyes. The salad we are talking about is massive and could feed four. The point is that when we received our salad it was like going to Apple bee's and ordering a side salad. We first mentioned it to our waiter and he told us that we would have to take it up with Lupie ourselves.

After dinner my husband kindly went to pay the bill and brought this to her attention. NOT ONLY WAS SHE RUDE BUT TOTALLY DISRESPECTED OUR CONCERNS AND OURSELVES AS CUSTOMERS. SHE WAS A ROYAL B##TCH.

With all of that being said. Honestly, it is really not that great. The reason they have their reputation is because you get your buck for your money. How hard is it to make a decent pasta dish. So why would she try to diminish her reputation over a measly dollar. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE OWNER HERSELF "LUPIE"

Favorite restaurant in Elizabeth neighborhood!!!

by ionaconnell at Citysearch

After living in Charlotte my entire life, I always heard about this place, but it always looked crowded. With a line out the door, we got a table in less than 5 minutes!! The food was absolutely delicious!!! I had a veggie burger and my boyfriend had the veggie chili that was the best I've ever had. The service was awesome, I never had an empty glass and everyone smiled as the entire staff seemed to wait on everyone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a fast and friendly meal!!

  • Pros: Service, food, cheap!!!
  • Cons: parking, you may have to park along the street

the best chili in town!

by Rachel4art at Citysearch

I ate at Lupie's a few weeks ago for lunch for the first time, it was fabulous. Nice people, reasonable prices, and the best chili I've ever had. My husband got the Cincinnati chili which was a little sweeter, and equally delicious. Look out for it while driving by or you'll miss it. Park around back.

  • Pros: authentic fare
  • Cons: odd location

Lupies is a winner!

by karby26 at Citysearch

I've known Lupie my whole life. She started as a kitchen worker at another little hole in the wall place on 7th street. She opened Lupies and it's been fantastic ever since. My favorite is the veggie plate - a salad with really yummy italian dressing, mac & cheese (and I don't usually like mac & cheese) and pinto beans with onions all served with cornbread and sweet tea... it just doesn't get any better than that! I highly recommend Lupies to anyone :-)

  • Pros: friendly, fast service
  • Cons: can be kinda noisy

Chili was salty

by koolaidsmyl at Citysearch

I have been to Lupie's in the past, but the most recent time, the chili was salty. Too salty to eat. The nachos were tasty & served up fast. I may have to give the chili a chance again, since I've never had it like that before.

This friendly neighborhood pub serves Charlotte's best chili--and a killer hamburger.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
While waiting for a table, which can be a fair bit of time, check out local photographer Byron Baldwin's beautiful black-and-white photographs of the staff on the walls. Lupie pulls off the admirable feat of combining a Southern meat-and-three place with a neighborhood pub. The result is a place as famous for its meat loaf, green beans and mashed potatoes as it is for its appetizers, burgers, chili and gee-whiz beer.
