Horrible Beer Selection and no cards? Good Music!
by pearceweb
Last time I was at the DD they only had an ATM and didn't take cards which in this day in age is annoying. The beer selection was horrible, the best thing on the menu was a big NewCastle which I liked but the menu is still lacking. The music is great though and that is why people come. The help could be a little more attractive but such is life!

- Pros: Great music scene and it's a fun time
- Cons: horrible beer selection unless you are a lover of cheap domestics.
This staple of the national blues circuit boasts first-rate live music seven nights a week.

In Short
Patrons looking for a laid-back evening of blues, alt-country or rockabilly can grab a seat near the front for an unforgettable night of intimate music, or mingle near the back to can tap their feet with the regulars. Many blues legends have graced this stage, including Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and Eric Clapton. The club is a nationally known venue and a Charlotte haunt since 1973.
Yuppie's go home!!

I have been going to the Double Door since it opened.Yes, it's crowded, service is slow, and the don't offer "snacks". So what? It's all about the music!! The cover charge is not pricey considering the calibre of music that you hear. I hate cigarettes and it is smokey, but I will gladly pay the cover and brave the smoke for some of the great talent that I have seen there. It ain't you average pick up bar with chicks grinding each other on the dance floor and putting their tongues down each other's throats. Go "uptown" for that crap!
- Pros: Music, Music, regulars
- Cons: Smokey, slow service
DDI is king!
by mojojojoiii
come on charlotte, are you going to let a crap hole like verizon amp. win best music venue? hell i rather have to listen to britany spears (and not get to look at her) 24 hours a day for months than go to verizon. the DDI has won the w.c. handy blues award for best musical venue, featured SRV and even had eric clapton show up to jam...for gods sake people we're talking real music for real people, get on line and vote now and vote often!!!!!!!!
- Pros: real music, real people, really cool
Double Door - MUST TRY!!
by cindistalnaker
Double Door is me and my husband's favorite place to go kickback on a weekend night. The atmosphere is so relaxed, and the staff and crowd is very nice. The 20 oz NewCastles are awesome as well as the lemon drops! You have to give Double Door a shot if you appreciate good blues tunes with no fluff!
- Pros: intimate setting, casual & comfortable, GREAT bands
- Cons: pricy cover , late band start time
Service
by Debbywallace
This is a real classic business, having lasted for 29 years now. Great music, but gets too crowded sometimes. Drinks are ok but TOO expensive as compared to those at other local bars.Probably the worst is the service by the bartenders. They tend to play favorites, take lots of breaks, and have been known to totally ignore a customer trying to order. This makes the DDI experience frustrating at times.
- Pros: good music (usually), no problems with disc, familiar
- Cons: slow service, expensive, too crowded sometimes
"I saw for myself."
by dewayne
After reading all the reviews, I decided to see for
myself what the DDI was truely like. I have concluded that the regular DDI blues fans are in-capabile of giving a unbiased review. Sadly, it is all too true that most patrons are forced to stand up ALL night long. Getting to the bar, to get a drink, served in a plastic cup, is a Major endeavor! No food, chips, crackers, or peanuts only! And the tobacco smoke ?...UNBELIEVEABLE! The ONLY
satisfactory thing about the DDI was the music.
- Pros: Good Location, Good music
- Cons: Redneck patrons, No seating "SRO", Very dirty
Whiners begone
by jimmyboy
This is my home away from home. Having lived in many cities, this is, by far, one of the best blues venues ANYWHERE. When I need a big shot o' blues, this is the place I go. Now for the whiners - stay home. If the bar wasn't packed, if the audience wasn't shoulder to shoulder, this revered place wouldn't exist. The bartenders do their level best to serve as fast as possible. The regulars are the nicest folks you'll meet. In the ten years I've been going to the DDI, I've never once been "offended" by anyone, even if they did just come off their blue-collar job. So elitists, find your own spot and I promise I won't be there.
- Pros: Inexpensive, great acts, good local talent
