Great Food, Great Outdoor Patio
by DowntownCharlotte24
Had a great experience my fist time at the Queen of Cajun. I had the Bayou Platter and my girlfriend had the Etouffee. Both were excellent but I especially liked the blackened seasoning on the chicken and catfish mine came with. From what I heard the Etouffee is one of the most popular on the menu so you can't go wrong with either one.
Overall, I will def return and recommend.
- Pros: Great Date Spot, Food, Outdoor Seating, Online Reservations
- Cons: Parking is tough if you come on Fri and Sat
One of the best in Charlotte

The band is great but can be overpowering if you are right in front of them. I have had numerous items on the menu and have never had one dish that did not exceed my expectations. The BBQ Shrimp app is a MUST. I dont even care if they put the shrimp in, the sauce and bread are the best. you will get a different atmosphere and food quality is as good if not better that locations like del frisco.
- Pros: Food is unmatched and unique
- Cons: sitting right in front of the band
By Far- My favorite restaurant in Charlotte!
by ShelbyBrooke
A mere 3 1/2 years ago, I was brought to Cajun Queen on a date. Since, this restaurant has been a favorite of mine. I love the atmosphere; always sitting upstairs! The jazz band provides fabulous live entertainment. However, I would advise sitting across the room is you are planning on having a quite conversation. Their is usually a wait and the bar upstairs provides great drinks to sip on while listening to jazz and waiting to be seated. The food is absolutely amazing. I have had many items off the menu, but usually order off the specials. If you haven't tried Cajun Queen- you are definitely missing out on one of Charlotte's best kept little secrets. Great dining with a group, on a date, or as a business dinner.
- Pros: Love the Food, the Service, and the Music! Great overall atmosphere.
- Cons: Parking can be tough during prime hours and there is usually a wait.
Best cajun around

This place is great! Staff are very pleasant. Food is out of site!!! I have been a regular since '97. I have tried everything or just about and it's all delicious. Blackened is wonderful. Toppings you can get are excellent. The Dixieland Band is an asset to the already great atmosphere. Everyone should go and try this out. Kudos to the Cajun Queen!!!!
- Pros: Great prices. Excellent all around
- Cons: none
Don't try the balckened food
by brym13
My wife and I went there tonight for our anniversary -- we try a new restaurant every year. This was our first disappointing experience in 8 years. The crawfish scampi was good, and my wifes meal was pretty good as she had the fried oysters and fried shrimp. I love Cajun food. Gumbo is one of my favorites and a good blackened catfish and shrimp. Thus, that is what I ordered. The Gumbe was not like any Gumbe I ever had -- and I have had Gumbo at many Cajun restaurants. I wrote it off as some places are just diffeent -- I still had my blackened shrimp and catfish coming. When the plate came out I smelled ash -- I thought someone had stirred the fire we were sitting by. When I put a piece of shrimp in my mouth I realized the smell was from my plate. It tasted as if someone had dipped it in an ash tray. Not only the worst cajun food I had ever had -- but the worst food I had ever had. I did taste the fish, to ensure it was the consitent -- it had the same taste. I called the waitor over and told him to simply smell the plate -- he agreed something was wron (or at least wanted to get a tip). The manager then came out and asked me if I wanted something else, my taste buds were scarred a little but I wanted the blackened. He very politly indicated that I was probably tasting what I was smelling and since I was by the fire and said I would probably be better off with a fried platter. Polite way of saying this is how we make it and the problem is me. Personally, the food would have never left the kitchen if I ran the place -- a simple sniff test. Other food there looked fin, my fried food was OK but overall I was very very disappointed. I could have gotten friend shrimp for less elsewhere and it would have been as good.
Don't try the blackened food unless you like to eat from an ashtray. Staff did nothing to try to make amends either (no discount, desert for free, etc). They really didn't care -- just wanted my money. I'll never go back.
- Pros: Nice quaint place
- Cons: Blackened food horrible, Gumbo less than adequate
Best Food In Town!

I've been going to the Cajun Queen for years, and I just love it. I used to go just for special occasions, but now that they've revamped, I'm there at least once a week. Their covered patio is the best room in the house, unless I'm in party mode--then I sit with the band upstairs. The wait on Saturdays can get pretty long, but as long as I have a spot at their new bar with a 7th Street Stumbler in my hand, I'm set. My husband likes it too--says his favorite thing about the new bar is their LCD HDTV. If I'm craving cajun and he wants to watch the game, we'll head over to the Queen and eat at the bar. It's a wonderful compromise.
- Pros: food, music, smoke-free
- Cons: parking's tight, no saturday reservations

Bad Business, Good food

The food here is good and worth a taste, however PAY IN CASH...We left a cash tip and they added 20% to my credit card anyway....And don't try to get a response if they do it to you too....Be wary...

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. If you like live jazz, this is your place. It gets crowded so make a reservation!

A warm fireplace, Dixieland jazz and fine Cajun food keep 'em coming back.

In Short
Like other restaurants in the Stanleyville section of the Elizabeth neighborhood, this one is located in an old house. Barbecued shrimp and spicy fried oysters that come with a tangy dipping sauce may well be the best two appetizers in town. Diners can order their choice of crawfish, chicken or shrimp served three different ways: etouffee, Diane or Creole. Each varies in degree of spicy, with etouffee toward the have-plenty-of-water end.
