Most Fun Sushi Experience in Charlotte!

by SpaQueen77

i can't go a week without eating at Ru Sans. Whatever I'm in the mood for - they have it! And if it's not on the menu, they will create it for you.

Plus, the lunch buffet is only $10... can't beat it!!!

  • Pros: lots of choices, fun environment
  • Cons: always busy!

Great Sushi, HORRIBLE service!

by flintsone

The sushi at Ru SAn is wonderful, pobably the best in the area; however, the service is terrible! It is loud and chaotic and the goal is to get you to eat quicly and leave. The last and I mean the "last time I will ever eat at Ru San" we were asked to leave after only eating lunch for an hour so they could turn the table to new customers, how rude. Even thought the food is great, I will not be returning..in fact, the direct quote was "look at the door, people are waiting"...I could not believe it! We were paying customers trying to enjoy lunch.

  • Pros: The sushi is great...but
  • Cons: Terrible service

food good but inconsistent; service poor

by shleyasaur

I have been to RuSans about four times, and every time the food is phenomenal. However, I have had problems with getting what I ordered and getting it in a timely manner, I believe due to language barriers. The first time I ate there, I didn't get my entree at all-I was with 5 other ladies and had to sit and watch them eat while they took FOREVER to re-order my meal. A few of my friends didn't even get what they ordered but were so hungry they didn't care. I gave the place a second chance and have been mostly satisfied, with the exception of the last time. On that occasion, I asked my waiter three times for a sweet tea and never got it-plus the calamari appetizer I ordered (usually a big plate, the stuff is $7) came on a tiny plate and look skimped.

I am recommending this place for the food, it can be damn good if you get the right thing.

  • Pros: Food is tasty, food is tasty, food is tasty
  • Cons: Service, ambience, loudness, language barrier, rude/rushed staff

Best Sushi Selection I've ever seen

by vinylspun

My wife and I just went for the first time. We didn't know what to expect with the reviews since it had come so highly recommended by friends. It felt like walking into a rave (in a good way - they played some remixes of some of my favorite DJ's). I only started eating sushi a couple years ago, and I have never seen a menu with this many options for so CHEAP. Honestly, we spent more on wine and dessert than on the food and I still ate more than I usually do. It took a little while to be seated, but it was because they were packed. The wait times were told to us well ahead of time - a few minutes for seating, 20-30 minutes for food because we walked in while there were a lot of people and parties. They asked if that was ok since it was such a busy interval and were always really nice to us. The only yelling we heard was the cooks yelling "Thank You" and some other things I couldn't understand - it seemed friendly though. Honestly, super flavor on the sushi, the menu is very accurate, our wait staff was very attentive, yet gave us room to eat. It took a little while to get a bill, but like I said it was a very packed interval. I do not know if it is always a long wait, but it was completely worth it to us. We will be back for sure!!

  • Pros: great food, cheap, so many options
  • Cons: wait can be long and the music can be loud if you don't like it

Cheap, high quality sushi

by j2willi4

very good sushi for a very good price... has an expansive menu of both sushi and cooked meals all within an affordable price range... have eaten at many of the more expensive sushi places in town and find myself enjoying rusan's as much if not more than most of the rest.

  • Pros: price, staff, tastiness
  • Cons: occasional long waits

Sad

by jamesbc

Lunch buffet looks nice but they don't seem concerned about your health, so get there early if you want food that hasn't been sitting out for 2+ hours.

And, worst website ever for a multi-state restaurant chain? rusans dot com . I mean, come on.

Ru-sucks

by cltbanker

I hesitated to go back to this restaurant after such a terrible dining experience the first time. And I should have listened to myself. Two times in a row now I have had inexcusably bad service at this place. Our large party had an 8:30 reservation. We were all there promptly at 8:30 and were curtly told we would have to wait another 30-45 min to be seated. After the first 30 min passed, we were told it would be another 30 with no apology. I?m not fond of eating at 10:00 at night. We finally had to insist the staff seat us at a makeshift table made up of the outdoor patio seating. Look, I get it, they're busy and large parties are a pain - it's hard to seat them if no one's leaving (probably b/c they're also receiving terrible service). But if you're running and up-and-coming restaurant, you need to be in the business of accommodating large parties on a busy night. If you can't, don't promise you'll honor a reservation. We would have gladly gone elsewhere had we been told in advance it would have required an Act of Congress to get seated. More troubling was the restaurant's complete lack of concern that a party of 12 people was badly inconvenienced, hungry, and lucky to get their food before 11:00 at night. I'm not asking to have my rear end kissed. A sincere explanation and apology from the manager would have been all that was necessary. But the management was nowhere in sight and the staff could care less. I could go on and on about everything else that went wrong after we were seated, but you get the drift. It's a shame, the sushi's great. But restaurant prices are jacked up because you?re paying for the service and experience in addition to the food. And it's been a while since I've dined somewhere where the service was so consistently bad. Avoid Ru-sucks. There are better restaurants out there.

  • Pros: Good sushi
  • Cons: Worst service in Charlotte. Even bad by Manhattan standards.

Cheapest $1 Maki around, and its good!

by skeezer

Yeah I agree, if you want a subtle meal stick to your home or a back alley for all I'm concerned. I love the environment there, everyone is friendly and greets you with a warm welcome when you enter and exit. Me and my girlfriend love the place and recommend it to anyone looking for an upbeat and affordable meal. Great sushi.

  • Pros: Cheap, enjoyable and they yell obscene things to you when you come in!
  • Cons: You dont understand what they're yelling
