The food is better at Golden Corral- and I hate the Golden Corral.

by regularhybriddriver

I had the steak.... Golden Corral has better steak. Service stinks- I was told the manager was unavailable when I asked to speak to him/her.

Just don't bother with this place.

Best Food in Charlotte...so far

by IceHail

The food was really tasty. Spouse and I ordered a Salmon Entre with a Lobster Mac side...it was so good. There was plenty of food one side dish could be easily shared. The ambiance was romatic and the wait staff was attentive. I would recommend this place for special occasions.

  • Pros: Great Food
  • Cons: Pricey

Better than Ruth or Morton's

by Gwalk96

My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and could decide between Ruth Chris and Mimosa Grill. We chose to go to Mimosa Grill, since we had been to Ruth Chris on other occasions. We were pleasantly surprise and very glad that we made the choice to go with Mimosa. The food and service were outstanding. Actually too much food. Don?t order any side dishes. The service was very good. The atmosphere was very nice. The food had great flavor! Would certainly go back. Would certainly be a great choice when considering Ruth Chris or Morton's.

  • Pros: Flavorful food, good service, and pricing was excellent.
  • Cons: Don't hear this much. But too much food, if you order sides.

Don't waste your dollars!

by dineradvocate

Don't waste your money! One of the worst dining experiences we have had! I've been in the restaurant business and realize there are mitigating circumstances......but not here. We had a side of Lobster Macaroni & Cheese; sounded intriguing. Kraft boxed macaroni would easily surpass this fare in terms of moisture and texture, not to mention flavor. It was dried out, akin to cardboard, the lobster was dried out and tasteless.

The entree, which both my wife and I chose was Leg of Lamb. We have had early bird specials that were much, much better and at a third of the price. The Lamb was extremely fatty, incredibly tough and had that "re-heat" texture. The wine, however, was quite good; probably because they hadn't the opportunity to alter it, and, that we purchased the entire bottle. Without reservation, I would say that it was by far, the worse $100+ meal we had ever been served. The wait staff was cordial, attentive and quite competent. They, however, were not to blame for the entree. We were on our way to the theatre and did not have the time to order another selection.

Let's hope that Johnson & Wales begins to graduate competent chefs and that before long we will have find dining in Charlotte. We have eaten in fine dining houses throughout the U.S. and abroad and we understand food quality, preparation, presentation and certainly pricing versus value. This is one restaurant you don't want to roll the dice on.

  • Pros: Wine is good
  • Cons: Inexcusable Food

Below average food, service, and value

by ruc2827

Mimosa has an upscale, contemporary setting overlooking the square, with plenty of window seating and available outside seating. Despite it's modern contemporary decor, they play classic jazz more akin to a stuffy steak restaurant. Service is inconsistent and choppy, not as trained and consistent as other upscale dining establishments, including chains or independents. For example, no napkins were at the table I was seated at, which should be 101 for any restaurant, not to mention an upscale restaurant. To make matters worse, the server did not offer any napkins despite the fact that they were clearly missing. The waiter choppily worked his way through the ordering process, taking 10 minutes to bring drinks, another 10 minutes to order. Food was not served until an hour into the dinner. My order was taken incorrectly and I received Rotisserie Chicken instead of Rotisserie Chicken Fettuccine (the server should have been particularly aware of the potential confusion given the similar names). The chicken was bland and dry. The appetizer was uninspired. The preparation was good (side of raspberries and asparagus), but preparation is secondary to taste. For $50 a person for just an appetizer, entree, and glass of wine, it is a below average value. Relative to other upscale dining establishments, this was below average service and food as well, thus two stars overall relative to other similar restaurants.

  • Pros: Ambience, decor, wine selection
  • Cons: Value, service, taste

Great cursted Omaha steak-melts in your mouth

by locnes

Visiting Charlotte from Houston and had a wonderful meal. Service was great, hospitable and accurate. Relaxed atmosphere, romantic, but could be good for couples or groups and business associates. They were sensitive to our needs as diners. The meal was deliciaous-Omaha Steak Filet-yum yum. Would recommend and also would eat there again. Good wine list. Not family friendly. Relaxed business casual to casual dressy located in the Wachovia Building across the street from Courtyard by Marriot-in the financial district. Again, the filet steak was "oh so good".

  • Pros: easy to get to from walking distance to hotels
  • Cons: not kid friendly, don't eat here if on a budget

Uptown favorite offers innovative cuisine with a Southern twist.

by Contributor

The Scene
In the heart of uptown Charlotte, this eatery features modern artwork and a charming patio that opens onto a plaza, complete with fountains and a view of the city. The menu focuses heavily on seafood. Starters include spicy-sweet calamari and a baby spinach salad with warm pecan-crusted goat cheese and peach chutney. Notable entrees include the pecan-crusted trout with peach chutney and honey-lemon butter and a tender filet with a pimento-cheese crust and cabernet reduction.

Business Meal

by krautkra

I had dinner with a business partner in July, it was a great location. The food was very good I had potato crusted trout, yummie. The wait staff was very personable and helpful on what to order. Next time I go back I'll take my wife with friends and make it an evening event.

simply outstanding

by peppersfan

My experience at Mimosa Grill was simply outstanding. The wait staff was very helpful and professional, but unlike those in other restaraunts of similar price range, Mimosa's staff managed to make our family feel comftorable and relaxed. Our waiter was great and introduced me to some great wine. The food was possibly even better. Their shrimp and grits were great, and the pork rack was about the best I've ever had. My wife's mahi mahi was great too!!! This restaruant is my new favorite place in Charlotte.

  • Pros: service, food, wine list
  • Cons: not sure?

Fabulous!!!!

by carolinagirl67

Mimosa Grill is a fabulous restaurant! The Mimosa has a good wine selection and several creative martinis--my favorite is the one with pineapple infused vodka--yummy. And for the food, the georgia hushpuppies with crawfish and rock shrimp were divine. The pimento cheese encrusted filet was outstanding, as was the chocolate lava cake. Presentation was beautiful as well. Service was impeccable--very friendly and informative staff. Uptown food with a down south flair.
