Best Soul Food In Charlotte
by amojoy at Citysearch
Be sure to try the Collards, they know what they're doing here. I am from the lowcountry, Charleston, South Carolina, we know what soul food is suppose to taste like an Simmons is the spot. I tell all my friends about this place since being turned on to them about three years ago. Simmons should receive National attention like Sylvia's of Harlem. If you're going to Charlotte, try Simmons Restaurant on N. Graham..Don't miss the peach cobbler! Everything is cooked to perfection in there! The broccolli Cassarole is da Bomb!
- Pros: The food is absolutely incrdeible; personable staff; food always served fresh & hot; Lemonade is precious!
- Cons: Small, can't accomodate large crowds; male waiters not personable
Best Chicken Sandwich in C-town!!!!
by j_rock5000 at Citysearch
You have not experienced the heart and soul of charlotte until you've visited Simmons "down home cookin" restaurant in the 4th ward. If the friendly, laid back atmosphere of the dining room is not enough to put you at ease, a stomach full of good ol' fashioned southern cooking will definitely do the trick! You can't go wrong with any of the favorites on this comfort food menu, but the chicken sandwich will have you salivating at first sight. This hand-crafted masterpiece of a sandwich, piled high with all the toppings you can handle and snuggled between a mouthwatering homemade bun is a definite crowd pleaser. Check this place out!!
Good Southern Food!

This is one of those places that you only know about through word of mouth. It's basically a little hole in the wall, but the food and the service are fabulous. I would highly recommend the broccoli casserole (best I've found in Charlotte) and the meatloaf. The walls are covered with pictures of all the local athletes that frequent the restaurant, which is so interesting to see. I only wish I had known about this place sooner!
- Pros: food, service, cost
Not Impressed
by tess691 at Citysearch
I raved about the food to an out town friend of mine. And when he came to town I took him there to eat. The food as usual was great, but we had to wait forever for our food to come. This was not the usual service, but my friend, who was late for his next appointment, was not impressed.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Friendly Atmosphere
- Cons: Crowded, long wait on food, parking lot too small
Went Once & It Made Me A Regular

I went to the restaurant one time cause I had heard from some of my co-workers that the food was awesome. It is definitely a family operation from Mamma all the way down to her grandchildren. I love it. It is Southern "Soul Food" that my stomach and soul love. Be sure and check out all the walls as they are covered with memorabillia going back to early Hornets-most all of the players were regulars and if you look close you will see some of the players shoes signed with their recomendations for Simmons as well. I love it and you will too. Join the family-Go to Simmons!
- Pros: Peach Cobbler, Cornbread, Mamma Simmons
- Cons: Parking, Limited Seating
