disappointed
by jstat at Citysearch
I went here for dinner for the first time in several years and it seems to have gone downhill quite a bit. The waitress was very slow (considering it wasn't very busy) and the formerly romantic atmosphere has changed. We will likely be sticking with 131 Main or Red Rocks in the future.
- Pros: good steak
- Cons: service, atmosphere
Disappointed and embarrased!

We went to the South Charlotte location on a Sunday evening at 6pm and the restaurant was pretty empty.
A NY Strip steak was ordered at my table cooked medium. The steak arrived medium rare and was not able to be cut. The second time it arrived it was the same problem. The manager delivered the steak and argued that their "Medium" cooked steak is more on the light pink vs. warm pink which the way it should be. The second time it arrived it was also over a quarter of fat.
At the end of the meal I brought it to the attention of the manager that we should not be charged for a steak that had to be returned twice. He argued with me that it is the way "Mickey and Mooch" cooks their steaks. Instead of saying he was sorry and just taking the steak off the bill he continued to argue with me.
I am not sure what their customer service philosophy is but THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! Don't argue with one if you want them to return to your restaurant.
I had been in the past and although service was always lacking the food was good. I am not a Mickey and Mooch fan anymore.
Disappointed

I had heard great things about Mickey & Mooch from my coworkers so I thought I'd try it out. Bad mistake. I ordered the crab soup which tasted bad and was luke warm. My actual meal - filet oscar with sugar snap peas and mashed potatoes - was terrible. The potatoes were just a dry mess lumped together on a plate, tasted terrible and were cold. The peas were almost soggy-like, and the steak was way too done (i asked for a warm red center) and sort of grisly. The bernaise sauce and crab meat atop the steak were both cold, and the bernaise sauce wasn't creamy but more "thickened" from having sat out too long.
I was extremely disappointed with my meal and will never go back.
- Pros: service was good and prompt
- Cons: food was awful
WORST MEAL EVER!!! Slow and poor service.

My wife and I had reservations for 6:45. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. (The only good part of the evening)
We ordered an Filet Mignon appetizer to start that was merely okay. For an Entree I had the ?Shrimp Carbonara? and my wife had the ?Prime Porterhouse?.
When the meal made it to the table my wife immediately noticed a horrible odor. It was her steak. When she cut into it the smell the quickly made it over to me. I couldn?t believe it. The beef was bad. We called the waiter over to complain who in turn said he would get the manager. I asked the waiter to remove the steak from the table so we wouldn?t have to deal with the odor, but he didn?t. We had to wait until he came back without the manager before he finally removed it from us. We were told the manager was busy and would be with us when he could. I then requested the check.
When I received the check I noticed her meal had been taken off. It wasn?t until after I had given him my credit card and was waiting for the approval did the manager arrive. He questioned our problem and after hearing it said he didn?t notice anything wrong but would go inspect the remaining meat in the back.
We were offered a ?Free Desert?. We refused the offer. I couldn?t get away from the restaurant quick enough.
- Pros: NONE!!!
- Cons: Poor/Slow Service. Apathetic management. Expensive.
Will NOT return

This is my first restaurant review, but our experience was so dreadful, I needed to write. To be fair, we did not order steak and, from checking out what other people ordered, that's what people like at M&M. It was loud, but that's OK, there are plenty of places to go for that quiet evening. The service was fine - no complaints. It was the food that was so awful. Without exception, everything we ordered was over the top and consequently, just bad. The house salad dressing that "everyone loves" is just a sweet mess. The blue cheese coleslaw was missing at least half the cabbage - it was more like a cheese ball with a few vegies stuck in for color. The ribs did fall off the bone as the waitress said, but they were dry, and of course, coated in a sweet uninspiring bbq sauce. However, none of the dishes was worse than the shrimp and grits. I was prepared for a rich dish, but it was almost inedible. If I could have wiped off the shimp and gotten a plate a plain grits, it would have been bearable. Just for the shear fun of it, we took the leftoevers home just to look at it all in the morning congealed together in the "to go" box. Portions were large and it is apparent that many people like this restaurant as it was packed with an hour and a half wait at 6:15 on a Wednesday night, but I don't see how we could give it another try.
Worst experience in the last 3 years

Mickey and Mooch was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in a long time. The service was pretty good, but the food was cold. We had a party of 8 and were seated 45 minutes after ou reservation. 4 of our entrees arrived 45 minutes after ordering and the other 4 came out 15 minutes later! The server apologized and said the General Manager would stop by to apologize and introduce himself. He came by as we were paying( Nothing Deducted!!) and said that they "lost" a ticket in the kitchen. He also told us that they had another reservation for the table we were sitting at and asked if we would re-locate to the bar.HE NEVER APOLOGIZED !!
It was my wife's birthday and we had made arrangements for a slice of chocolate cake to be delivered with a candle in it. ( I called earlier for the reservation and made a point to order this ahead of time). He said he knew nothing about this and said it would be delivered to a table in the bar. OK, so we moved. The cake came out 30 minutes later at the same time our first order of drinks arrived and NO candle. The coffee was cold and the server never brought us cream or sugar even after asking on two occasions. Forget about a re-fill!!
Overall it was a dismal experience. I have been there in the past and had a great time, however the last 3 or 4 visits in the previous 3 months have been mediocre at best. The restaruant has lost something recently and they don't seem to care. It's like going to one of those "chain" restaurants.
This is one of the worst managed restaurants in my experience. They just don't care!
- Pros: Cold food, Slow service and no manager presence

I was very disappointed in the food & management at Mickey & Mooch. I first ordered fish, Mahi and it was very fishey and cooked to long and very bland. They were dry and bland. I then sent the Mahi Mahi back and ordered a broiled chicken breast. The chicken was very very dry and bland. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the food. The manager came over after I had sent the first order back and ask me where was my food. He then went to the kitchen, I guess to find out where my food was. He came back about 10 minutes later with my chicken and left. Never to be seen again. The atmosphere was nice, a little to loud, the waitress was good, but the food was terrible. I will never go back to Mickey & Mooch's. The experience was very unpleasant.
- Pros: atmosphere, waitress
- Cons: bad food, bad management, too loud

Came from Chicago and Kansas City adnd I know a good steak.. They must have had a bad night. Filet was tough and grissly. Nothing accompanied the meat, just a steak on a plate--no juice, no garnish nothing. Worse was that it was a mdeium steak that was dry. Guess we weren't regulars and got stuck with a bad piece of meat.
think the place is overrated.

Beware of the General Manager. Very short tempered and zero personality. I reserved for a party of 10, and this guy basically thumbed his nose and rolled his eyes at us when we asked for a dessert menu...(which he never brought )on a Monday night... It made us feel very uncomfortable. Next time Ill spend my measely $400 elsewhere.
- Pros: Our waiter, Our Friends
- Cons: The Manager, The Noise
