Worst experience in the last 3 years

by cedward at Citysearch

Mickey and Mooch was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in a long time. The service was pretty good, but the food was cold. We had a party of 8 and were seated 45 minutes after ou reservation. 4 of our entrees arrived 45 minutes after ordering and the other 4 came out 15 minutes later! The server apologized and said the General Manager would stop by to apologize and introduce himself. He came by as we were paying( Nothing Deducted!!) and said that they "lost" a ticket in the kitchen. He also told us that they had another reservation for the table we were sitting at and asked if we would re-locate to the bar.HE NEVER APOLOGIZED !!

It was my wife's birthday and we had made arrangements for a slice of chocolate cake to be delivered with a candle in it. ( I called earlier for the reservation and made a point to order this ahead of time). He said he knew nothing about this and said it would be delivered to a table in the bar. OK, so we moved. The cake came out 30 minutes later at the same time our first order of drinks arrived and NO candle. The coffee was cold and the server never brought us cream or sugar even after asking on two occasions. Forget about a re-fill!!

Overall it was a dismal experience. I have been there in the past and had a great time, however the last 3 or 4 visits in the previous 3 months have been mediocre at best. The restaruant has lost something recently and they don't seem to care. It's like going to one of those "chain" restaurants.

This is one of the worst managed restaurants in my experience. They just don't care!

  • Pros: Cold food, Slow service and no manager presence

Way too loud!

by cdowgiert at Citysearch

We couldn't hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other. I had no idea who our server was since 10 different people came to our table and we never saw the same person twice. Tables are too close together and it is miserable to get around the place. Drinks at the bar were weak and expensive. There are much better places for a good steak. The food was ok but the atmosphere ruined it anyway. Would not go back.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: LOUD, CROWDED AND EXPENSIVE

Great place to go for a special occasion- the food was excellent and we loved the service. It is beautiful inside.

Excellent food in a surprisingly cozy atmosphere. It's easy to forget you're in a shopping center.

The Scene
Creamy walls and floor-to-ceiling windows are accented by dark woods and dim lighting. Cushioned booths hug the exterior walls and half-walls, giving diners privacy even amid the crowds. Servers are friendly and well-trained, and a pianist makes beautiful music in the piano bar Sunday through Thursday nights. The Huntersville location is packed with good-looking Lake Norman folks, some couples but mostly groups.

The Food
Steaks and chops are the stars of the menu, but favorites such as crab cakes, barbecue ribs, risotto, pasta and baby lobster tail also are tempting. If you're a lobster fan or a Maine ex-pat, don't miss the lobster martini: a large amount of sweet, warm tails for an appetizer price. The filet and mushroom ravioli are rich and flavorful, and the shrimp and grits will win over even a reluctant connoisseur of low-country fare. On the side, try blue cheese cole slaw.

AVOID if you want to hear each other!

by terri0325 at Citysearch

I went here on a Monday night! You'd think it would be a little less crowded, Nope! It was like a Friday night. I couldn't even hear the person I was with for the loud roar. It was horrible. They had people stuffed in there like sardines and through out my entire meal I had the staff constantly smashing their bodies into my chair and back. The food was good but I expect a Monday night dinner that cost $65 for two people to be a little less chaotic! I won't go back! It was not a good dining experience at all! I like to talk during dinner not sit there quiet because I can't hear to have a conversation. I like to be relaxed too but the constant server with their rear end at the foot of my table almost touching isn't my cup of tea!

  • Pros: Food is good but not worth the chaos.
  • Cons: Loud, Tables too close, Reservations didn't help with seating.

Great dining overall!

by vacek at Citysearch

This is really an excellent restaurant overall. The service was great and the lighting is just right for a group dinner or a romantic evening out. From the salads to dessert, the food is outright delicious, the only problem is make sure you know how they cook their steaks. They actually char/sear the outside of the steak (after rubbing it with some spices, etc.) at a high temp to lock in all the juices, but unfortunately sometimes this makes the outside almost "burnt" and the inside very juicy. I liked my steak just fine, but another person dining with my group did not at all and they very kindly too the steak off our bill, which was very nice of the staff there. So, just FYI about their cooking style, but I really do recommend this restaurant for any occassion.

Excellent Choice

by donnere at Citysearch

We love M&M! The steaks are their claim to fame but their lobster is wonderful! Love the combo! Great side dishes and the blue cheese dressing is the best I've ever had. Great selection and good portions on the wine too! Apple Martinis are fabulous. Downside is that it is noisy but it's a fun place with good service and excellent food!

  • Pros: good value, good food, good wine & drinks
  • Cons: noisy, crowded

steak was the only thing good about the place

by lady_dine at Citysearch

I read the reviews. I have been there 5 times. Each time for steak. the service is so so . the atmosphere is truly lousy and loud. The so called GM is full of himself from watching him with the others. We go there for the steak only because there is nothing else in the area and they know it. (I am assuming it was the GM by the way people were helping him fall all over himself) but he tends to be quite emotional. Not really a good place to go if you want to impress someone. You may get embarrased. Also they do not like you going without a reservation and order you to sit at the bar and wait. (we went outside instead)

Best overall restaurant in the Charlotte area!

by hstuart at Citysearch

My husband and I have been dining at Mickey and Mooch for the past 6 years. We always have an excellent meal. The atmosphere is very upbeat, and the food is great. Also, save room for dessert, the chocolate cake is wonderful. Everytime we try a new restaurant, we always say, "We should have gone to M&M!"

  • Pros: large portions, great food, fun atmosphere
  • Cons: loud, long wait
