I too have grown up with Tony's Ice Cream. It's absolutely the best! My favorite is the butter pecan shake.....YUM! A word of advice.....get a spoon! There are so many pecans in there, they'll stop up your straw! Be nice to the people that work there. They work hard and do a lot of bending for your palate's pleasure.

Pros: Most delicious ice cream you'll ever eat! Thumbs WAY up!

Cons: "May" contain a few extra calories

Okay, so the food line is to the right of the ice cream counter. And there's an ATM machine near the door, cash only folks. This is a true institution. There were several Tony's locations, but this is the last one to survive. They make all their own ice cream at the factory next door. I personally do what the locals do, head to the Shrimp Boat, Twin Tops Fish Camp, or R.O.'s BBQ for a bite to eat, then head to Tony's for dessert. The food is GREAT as junk food goes, but you really came for the ice cream! If you are gonna order something, go southern style with some Pimento Cheese sandwiches or "all the way" hot dogs with homemade chili and onions. Shakes are made the old fashioned way. Hand dipped with a paddle, milk, blender. Then top it with another paddle of ice cream. My friend's favorite is Banana. Highly recommended. My favorite is the hot fudge sundae. Add the "Wet Walnuts" for $1 more. I go for Vanilla, since the hot fudge is AWESOME with the walnuts. Topped with whipped cream and a cherry. My aunt made the mistake of ordering the Banana Split one time. The mistake was that it could feed a family of four! It's HUGE! So, come hungry, eat messy, and leave with a smile on your face. I always tip, seems they don't get many. But hey, when you're getting homemade icecream sundaes for under $5 you can afford to be generous. They do have kiddie size scoops available. So bring a crowd. Did you know there's two drive-in theatres in Gaston County? Under $10 a carload. With first-run, still in theatre movies. One is closer to Charlotte at the Belmont exit. They have a double feature, with the first one starting at dusk. This is a town you should get to know. And Tony's Ice Cream is sure to become a weekend tradition. I'll see you there!

Pros: Historic. Excellent Homemade Icecream. Huge Portions. Only 20 mins from Charlotte.

Cons: Not enough seating. Not enough room in my tummy for the huge portions.

As a resident of Gastonia and the daughter of a BBQ man from Greensboro, I know a good hot dog and Tony's has a pretty good hot dog. Not as good as JW Nuckles from Greensboro, but fair. Have tried their Ice Cream and don't see the big deal. West End in Greensboro tops them all. As for Tony's, beware of their French Fries, as either their oil is low quality or they don't change it very often....otherwise Hot Dogs are decent.

Pros: Good Hot Dogs, Lemon ice cream

Cons: Nasty French Fries...bad grease

We heard about Tony's and we tried it. Being an ice cream fanatic I was disapointed. the ice cream seemed to have a lot of air making it less creamy. as for the food. there are much better places in Gastonia. As for the nostalga there is charm in the history unfortunatly there is very few seats after you recieve your food you can't get a seat. For history and hometown Tony's is the place just look and then eat somewhere else.

One of the nicest reasons for living in Gaston County! Tony's Ice Cream has been a sweet treat since 1915. Nothing better than getting a hot dog "all the way" and topping it off with one of Tony's huge banana splits. Unless you are a revenous teen, better plan on splitting this with your wife or favorite other. Try their Black Cherry, Banana and Black Walnut flavors !!!

Pros: Terrific Ice Cream, Nostalgic venue

Cons: None

When I was growing up in Gastonia, one of my favorite things to do was go to Tony's with my grandpa. He would mention the word "Tony's" to any of his 30 grandchildren and all eyes instantly lit up and everyone was ready to jump in the car and go! The ice cream is better than any others that I have ever tasted in my entire life. Now, when I have the chance, I continue my grandpa's tradition with the children in my family by taking them to Tony's. I understand why he took us so many times. Seeing the expressions of excitement and the children's eyes light up when I say "Tony's" is priceless.

Pros: Inexpensive, High Quality, Fast Service

Cons: Not Enough Parking, Crowded, Small Tables

What's all the fuss? it's low cost, cheap in quality ice cream. Much better products and service and much nicer places are available in Gastonia. Tony's is ok, but it's not to die for.

Pros: location

Cons: product not good, hours, parking

This is hands down the best ice cream around. Not too sweet and not too heavy just right for one of those hot summer days.

Tony's has always made their own ice cream...I went there when I was a child...favorite is 'black cherry milkshake'. They make the best and most original milkshake around. Also, the grill is excellent. Always top health ratings...due to the management of one; Janie! If you get a shake order with NO LID.

Pros: hearty portions, quick service, hometown atmoshere
