Awesome place!

The food is awsome, mac and cheese and greenbean casserole are great!! the other reviews are old and outdated i have never seen kids running around. Parking can be tough at times but not terrible, motorcycles get first priority and are a pleasure to drive up there. Great beer selection too! Overall experience is great. I go at least once a month.
Atmosphere? Fun! BBQ? Ehhh...
by rozietozie at Citysearch
I'm from Eastern NC and started eating pulled pork BBQ before my mom stopped bottle feeding me. I decided to try Mac's after hearing several of my friends rave, "Oh, it's the BEST BBQ in Charlotte!!!" I must say, though, I was disappointed. I've had much better and more flavorful BBQ (even here in Charlotte). The pulled pork was bland, dry and had NO flavor, even after I poured sauce on it. I've had pulled pork so flavorful, no sauce was needed - but I didn't get it at Mac's. The sides were good - great onion rings and slaw! And the atmosphere is fun. Maybe it was just the pulled pork - because I really don't see how anyone who knows anything about BBQ would say that's the best BBQ in Charlotte.
- Pros: Atmosphere, Specials, Beer Selection
- Cons: Pulled Pork
Not the best-too many kids

Fair BBQ, but not the best in town. If the service was friendlier, it might make up for a lot of problems. Each visit has the food and service getting worse. I liked it better when it was mainly locals in the area. I really hate all the children allowed to roam free. I am sure it helps to make the wait staff more surly.
Average food, horrible service, parking is a joke.

The food is average and seems to get worse over time. I will not go back. Service used to be great, now it is horrible. Parking is a joke unless you ride a motorcycle. If you park on the back street, be careful, you could get towed or your car might get broken into. Both have happened to friends.
- Pros: BBQ is not bad
- Cons: Everything else
Good food, average service

I have been to Mac's on numerous occasions. The food is quite tasty. If you're not a BBQ person, try the burger - its probably the best I've had. Mac and cheese is also quite tasty. Great beer selection. Unfortunately, I have yet to experience good service. On our last visit, we had to ask the table next to us if we could borrow their ketchup as our waitress was MIA for about 15 minutes.
Great food and fun atmosphere

I followed a recommendation from a friend and went to Mac's. The food has amazing flavor, and meals are generous and good value for the price. Also impressed with the beer selection. This place is always busy, and I can see why. Be prepared to wait for a table. Children and large groups will be best served on weeknights. Great for people and bike watching on weekends.
Great pork BBQ

Yummy.... GREAT pulled pork BBQ, dont love the potato salad, but everything else is really good. Casual atmosphere----its a true biker bar!!! But not just for bikers, at lunchtime its filled with Charlotte yuppies, and every type of bbq fan.
- Pros: BBQ sauce is nice and spicy
- Cons: gets really crowded--i.e. hard to park!
Best BBQ in Charlotte!
by gapkid at Citysearch
I'm not a big fan of BBQ, but I love Mac's! The atmosphere -- a biker bar -- is fantastic for a great fun, casual evening out with friends. I've had some of my best experiences at biker bars -- first in Chicago, and now here in Charlotte. Although there are a lot of bikers who frequent Mac's, it's not just for bikers; it's a mix of people of all walks of life, where all are welcome. The menu is "fun," and you'll find a lot of interesting items available that most restaurants don't offer. Deviled eggs for an appetizer, anyone? The pulled pork is very flavorful and the multiple side items from which you can choose to accompany your meal are tasty too (I recommend the green bean casserole and mac & cheese!). And, on top of all that, you won't find a better domestic and international beer selection anywhere...and value-priced! I've been able to try some beers I've never heard of before and get to try something new each and every time! And while later at night, it may not be for kids, it was fun to take three kids there and sit outside on the picnic tables for an early evening meal. They enjoyed it as much as we adults did.
- Pros: BBQ, menu selection, side item choices, beer selection, price
- Cons: Crowded on Friday and Saturday night, but worth it!
Probably the best in Charlotte....

I love BBQ and have lived in a lot of places that claim to have the best. I think I found it at Mac's.
Very unique atmosphere but not a good choice for kids. Dining area is mixed with the "bar" and can be smokey at times.
Good place to go if you are dining alone. You can sit at one of the high top tables or at the bar and not be obvious you're there alone (unless you want to be!).
Definitely worth a try, you won't be disappointed.
Best wings. Period.
by wolfpack24 at Citysearch
Where do you start with this place. What do you get when you mix bikers, preppies, and hippies eating BBQ and wings? That's right...Mac's Speed Shop. The best wings I have ever had. Restaurants try and get away with selling nothing but bones, but not this place. You get every bit what you pay for. And not to mention great BBQ! All in a unique atmosphere you must see for yourself. Eat inside in the cool grill & bar or hang out at the patio area with picnic tables (with live music, certain nights). Stays crowded, parking tough at times.
- Pros: Best wings and great BBQ
- Cons: parking
