Heat Makes Working Out Here Miserable
by mm28210
I have been working out at the Pineville location almost every day for seven months. I have always thought it was too hot in there by about 10 degrees. I always sweat profusely, especially when I try to do a cardio workout. Almost everyone working out in there, regardless of fitness level or how they are dressed, is also dripping with sweat. This also makes the place smell pretty bad. I have complained, but the manager says the temperature is set by company standard. There are only a few small ceiling fans high up in the ceiling on low speed, so the air doesn't move much either. I'm looking for a new fitness club.
This budget gym trims the fat off its patrons at streamlined facilities.

The Scene
Most Ballys stick to the basics for their design. Televisions broadcast silently above multiple rows of cardio machines; mirrored walls act as the primary decorative components. But thanks to high-energy television ads and low-impact membership premiums, this national fitness chain has steadily attracted a clientele bent on saving money while losing weight or gaining muscle.
The Workout
Using fairly standard strength-training equipment and/or racks well-stocked with free weights, the best of the trainers here, who are classified at four different levels, can be as skillful as those found at costlier gyms. For group classes, signature exercise options include Spinning and Powerflex, as well as a number of patented routines inspired by Tae Kwon Do.
Unless you like working out in a sauna, on broken equipment, I don't recommend this gym.

I have been a member of Bally Total Fitness for over 3 years. I always go to the Bally gym on Pineville-Matthews road in Charlotte. It seems since this past summer they have had horrible trouble with the temperature at the gym. It is so hot in the afternoon if you were to go to the gym after work. The cardio equipment also always seems to be broken. I've gotten on equipment before that didn't have a repair tag and it would either not power on, the resistance weight was clammed all the way down or it wouldn't clamp down at all. Many times I have to try a few machines before I find one that isn't broken in some form.
I had an experience today that was the worst I had ever had. I complained about the heat (again, because if you don't say something, how are they going to know that there is a problem). The guy working that I told it was hot in here to, said that he was hot too. (keep in mind, he wasn't doing any work out activities, but just working behind the counter). I asked him to make a note. He said there wasn't anything he could do. I told him he could at least record the complaint. He continued to argue, so I walked away. As I was walking away he said "It's your problem". What!? The heat is my problem!? Then I went to the treadmill and was running. He then proceeded to embarrass me by bringing out a huge fan and placing it 2 feet from where I was running! I asked to speak to the manager and I'm now looking for a new gym.
