Love this restaraunt
by Sebastien
Well I absolutely adore this restaurant, the service has always been great for me.
I do agree with most people that the actual sushi is only mediocre, I honestly go other places if I want good sushi for this price (Yama is absolutely amazing).
On the other hand, on the weekends I always tend to splurge on one bad meal since I eat healthy during weekdays and my absolute favorite fried rice dish is here. I love the aioli sauce, the alcohol is wonderful and not a bad price. The atmosphere is very welcoming and taking a lot of your friends is a lot of fun.
To sum it up, if you are going for just sushi go somewhere else. If you want to just chill with friends and have sake bombs and fried rice or noodle dishes this is a great place.
- Pros: I like it
- Cons: The sushi
Great sushi, Poor Service
by phatboyboogaloo
Just for clarification, the wait staff has always been supreme at this location when it comes to the service! The management and hostess could consistently use a little help. This place really caters to single customer or couples. If you want to sit at the sushi bar or if it is just you and a date, you will generally get fast service. This past summer, I ate here every Monday night (1/2 off dirty martini night) with a girl friend and enjoyed the wonderful Charlotte summer evenings on their patio overlooking the skyline. If you come in with 3 or more - be prepared to wait, and if not all of your party is there, be prepared to get dirty glances by the management - no matter how many apps and Sake bombs you buy before every last member of your party shows up. Coming from someone who used to wait tables, service really drives my enjoyment of an evening out and bad service can quickly ruin it - especially when it's the manager. The food here is great, if a little overpriced and as I said before, the wait staff is all great - just don't get crossways with the manager and you should have a pleasurable evening!
- Pros: Ambience, Sushi
- Cons: Parking, Manager
Good if Convenient
by littlegirltree
Sushi 101 on Park Road has fairly quick service, some interesting combinations, and their lunch combos are a steal. However, if you're craving good sushi, there's better out there (Nikko). Sushi 101 is great for the immediate sushi impulse, but to satiate a high-grade sushi craving, keep looking.
It's the standard sushi joint.

this place has good sushi, a nice menu and pretty good service... definitely try some sake and a few sake bombs.
small sushi rolls, unwelcoming staff

So I gave this place 2 chances to impress me. The first time the lady at the bar taking my "to-go" order was very unfriendly and wanted to rush me through my order. After I got the sushi home, it was mostly rice and the very little fish that was there, was very FISHY tasting. The second time the service was a little bit better but the sushi was still very small, mostly rice, and still tasted a little fishy.
- Pros: convenient, fast
- Cons: poor service, poor quality food
Mediocre...at best
by mrhanlon
In the process of relocating to Charlotte, and we're looking for our new sushi spot...this is not it. The service was quite bad. We sat for several minutes before finally having glasses of water plopped down by a server who did not speak or even look at us. Found the rather squishy fish to be engulfed in overcooked rice. The spicy tuna roll is lackluster tuna doused with barely seasoned mayonnaise (they call it "aioli")--ick. I'm really hoping Charlotte has better sushi to offer, besides the Rusan's chain.
- Cons: terrible service, lackluster sushi
MSG
by peteyb
This place was ok when it first opened but has gone down hill, they use ingredients in the soup that have MSG in them. If you want good Sushi you will need to fly to New York and go to Fujiama mama. At Columbus and 83rd Street, then you will know what Sushi is.
- Pros: nice servers, good location
- Cons: small sushi, expensive
Best Sushi restaurant, hands down!
by mbwii
Sushi is fresh. Rolls are unique and can be altered to your liking. Restaurants like these make sushi an experience to die for. And the overall presentation of the food and the restaurant itself extraordinary. T he noodle dishes are great too!
- Pros: Sushi, Noodle Bowls, Outside Dining
No No No
by vw_soundq
I had to write this because I'm sick of hearing about how good this place is. I'm not one to outright bash any place, but their sushi is very sub-par compared to most places in Charlotte. I felt ripped off every time I ate there. The fish didn't seem all that fresh, the rice was bland and overcooked, and as far as the rolls go, I could roll them better. The only good thing I found was their noodle bowls, although for what they are they're expensive. And yes, I've been there at least 5 times, and I wanted to like it because of the atmosphere, but I won't be wasting any more money there. Go there at your own risk.
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Service, Quality
The Best Sushi Experiance EVER!!!
by sonria11
I only started eating Sushi about 4 years ago and now I have been to more sushi places than I can remember. I have yet to find anything that compares to Sushi 101. The variety is unsurpassed. The noodle bowls are amazing. I have friends that didn't eat sushi and they have now started because of Sushi 101. My own dad would eat only cooked sushi till I talked him into trying the Ahi Poke and he loved it.
I do have 1 issue there isn't a Sushi 101 on the north side of charlotte but I still drive for it because they are worth every penny.
And for those of you have seafood allergies they even have a soy paper wrap instead of nori that you can put on the vegetarian rolls like Sweat potato, asparagus, chicken and others so you can enjoy the sushi experience as well.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Curtious wait staff, Great Variety
- Cons: not enough locations
