Amazing!
by purplemo
I am a student at UNCC, so of course this restaurant is nearby. I have been frequenting this place for the past 3 years and have never had a bad experience. I absolutely love sitting on the upper balcony type area off the second floor, but when cold, I prefer the bottom level where the bar is. Came here once or twice and watched their karaoke night...very funny and entertaining. Overall, authentic mexican food with the NICEST people. They also offer a discount with your student id!
- Pros: Prices, Portions, Student Discount, Salsa
- Cons: None
A very average if not dissapointing Mexican restaurant with high prices.
by hutch1960
I have been there at lunch and dinner and find this place to be only average in their execution. What you read on the menus and what you get are very different. The wait staff on once occasion was very rude.
If you like sub-standard food this place is for you.
- Pros: Close to my house.
- Cons: Dumb enough to give them a third chance which was my mistake.
As people who eat out way to much.......Zapata's may be the best

Got kids??? They eat FREE off kids menu on Sundays with paying adult
by maur4mee
Huge servings for the $$. Quite noisy, so perfect if your kids are a bit loud. Go on Sunday if you have kids under twelve -- it's free for them off the kids menu with a paying adult. Wonderful decour. Clean. Lots of seating, so not a big wait. Sometimes the wait for food can be long, so bring stuff for kids to do. The wait staff accomodated our request for non-alcoholic margauritas for the kids. Wonderful place.
- Pros: free for kids on sundays, huge servings that you can split or take home
- Cons: somewhat noisy, can take a while to get food if you have a large group

Food is aweful and service is bad too.
They took more tip out of my credit card then what I paid.
Do not go to this place ever.

Lively and colorful decor and authentic flavor make it a favorite all over town.

The Scene
Everything at Zapata's says authentic, from the handcrafted chairs and booths to the festive music that fills the air. This fiesta-like atmosphere is comfortable and inviting, and servers are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive.
The Food
Bold flavors and superior quality. For starters, skip the traditional cheese dip and go for Zapata's version of queso fundido, a thick, hearty cheese blend served with warm flour tortillas. For a main dish, try the carne asana burrito, presented well-stuffed with flavorful steak and fresh beans, or the light yet satisfying Mexican stir fry. Wash it down with a margarita: Traditional lime or maybe peach, melon or mango.
Horale!

This is the best damn food north of the border! Zapata's is truly the only place to go for mexican and I am an ethnic food fanatic and critic. Most mexican restaurants serve the typical cheap canned beans, dry rice, and mushy enchilada - Zapata's is nothing like that! Everything is fresh. I recommend the Arroz Con Pollo or Tortilla soup. Enjoy the mariachi band at your table while you dine too. There is also another location north of Charlotte in Cornelius.
- Pros: Affordable, Fresh, Tasty
I love it
