Monterrey is not worth your money

Food was OK, but way overpriced. Most meals contain a red sauce reminiscent of italian pasta sauce, cheap ground beef, and tortillas. Don't eat here unless it is the only option. I would suggest Mexicasa in Harrisburgh!
this place sucks

this place must have a new chef. food really sucks and it seems that i never even get offered a refill. gave it few tries and i have to say i will never go back. on the other hand the Monterrey in matthews is excellent, SO MUCH different. chips are always fresh and they have really nice staff.

Great Mexican Food
by ShadesOfGrey at Citysearch
The fresh chips and salsa are awesome, they have some of the best quesadillas I've ever had, and they make a great Mojito.
I haven't had anything there that I didn't like, but being a college student I have to say that it is a little pricey to be so close to the university. If it were cheaper I would go a lot more.
- Pros: Food and Service
- Cons: Price
My Absolute Favorite!

I have been coming to Monterreys for 10 years with my boyfriend. It become my favorite mexican restaurant quickly. We moved away from Charotte but go every time we are back visiting! I get the Super Vegetarian Quesadilla and my boyfriend gets the chicken fajitas and they are amazing every time! The queso dip is so delicious! I usually smother my quesadilla with the queso dip and it makes it AMAZING! I love cheese though so that's probably why I keep coming back! The staff is extremely nice ans attentative. As you can imagine, they know us very well since we have been here many many times and they always greet us like we have kniwn them for years! They remember us! Its a MUST!

being in college im a pro at finding the most for my buck. that being said, i usually think twice before going to monterrey's. everytime i go its super slow for refried beans and rice. the menu is okay. nothing special. just tacos, burritos, etc. typical mexican fare. i didnt try the sangria but apparently i should..maybe next time. staff is really nice and thoughtful.
Small location, big flavor.

The Food
Monterrey' s authentic Mexican offerings are absolutely fabulous, with fresh ingredients and lively flavor. If you're famished, go for a combination platter: The chicken or beef burrito or enchilada with taco, rice and beans is easily enough for two meals. Even if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, you'll have fabulous leftovers.
For a complete package, start with the cheese dip (a nice addition to the fresh chips and salsa provided before the meal) and end with the fried ice cream--a delicacy topped with a light chocolate sauce and presented on a cinnamon-crusted pastry shell.
The Scene
This cozy find, which feels a little small in the former Rainbow Deli location, is a refreshing switch from the commercialized norm of Charlotte Mexican fare. The service is excellent--friendly and attentive--and the atmosphere is subtly and lively, yet intimate enough for casual conversation.
