BBQ. I have been eating here for many a year. Bill's is the best chopped BBQ around. Great people, service, price, and of course food. If you have't been-go soon. Only open 10am-3pm. Talk about bankers hours.

Good food, good fun! Try this place out.. Just moved from California to South Carolina. Love BBQ and was anxious to try some of the local flavor. Bill Spoon's was my first taste of the Eastern NC style. The chopped pork was moist, tender and delicious;especially with some of the vinegar based BBQ sauce on top. The slaw and brunswick stew were both very tasty, too. Super fast, super friendly service! The lunch special includes chopped pork, slaw, a side of potatoes, baked beans or brunswick stew, a small basket of hush puppies, and a bottomless cup of sweet tea all for eight bucks! But, when you get to the register, make sure you have cash, a check or even your promise to pay Mr. Spoon. No plastic!

They use the whole pig and, as the sign says, "it makes all the difference.". The Scene
Save for the mural on the back wall, the inside of this little joint is spare. But folks haven't been coming here since 1963 for the decor. They're here for the barbecue, plain and simple.

The Food
The barbecue is just the right juiciness with a fair amount of seasoning. It's eastern North Carolina-style, so don't expect to find a drop of anything remotely tomato to touch this stuff. It's good enough to eat with no sauce, but give the house hot sauce, a zingy vinegar-based concoction, a try. The hushpuppies keep coming, as does the sweet tea. Cole slaw, not too tangy, is as good as you'll find anywhere. Baked beans, the third member of the Carolina triumvirate, are just the right consistency.

TASTY, DELISH!!. This place is DELICIOUS. Just perfect Eastern NC barbecue! And you can buy the sauce!!!

Just wonderful for me. I bought three bottles of sauce just to take with me back to Miami so I can cook my own pork butt and drench it in this sauce (I am from Eastern NC).

There is just nothing like it. I just wish they had the tasty brunswick stew and flat cornbread like Rogers BBQ of Charlotte did in days past.

I don't even like "Eastern style". ...but I love this barbecue! This is the only eastern NC style barbecue I will eat and I will go out of my way for it! The cole slaw is fantastic and it is good enough to eat by itself rather than as a condiment. Try the banana pudding - they encourage you to every chance they get, but listen to them because they know what they're talking about! This is one of the best values of a lunch you will find in Charlotte. Where else do you get greeted by the owner? He makes you feel like family when you're here! Just make sure to check the business hours before you go, because they aren't standard for most restaurants.

Great Bananna Pudding too.... The service was outstanding, the bbq w/vinegar bbq sauce superb, backed beans, and stew were great. I'll be back, Bill was very welcoming as well - keep it to round numbers!

Bill Spoon's Barbecue is overrated. The whole pig bbq is over rated. I was very excited to try the food, however, the whole-pig roast/jerk was VERY VERY DRY. The meat was overcooked, with NO sign of moisture. The seasoning was overkill. For people who are serious about their bbq this place isnt what its cracked out to be. The backed bean were great, the slaw was average, and the hush puppies were decent. As for the service, it was great, a well needed distraction from the lack of taste.

Sweet Tea. If people want to try BBQ, this is the kind of place. BBQ, Slaw, HushPuppies & Sweet Tea. Breakfast of Champions. Typical Eastern BBQ. The restaurant is spotless and full of charm with Mr. Spoon at the register to take in the money.

Best BBQ. This place is really a treasure. It's great food, service and quality is tops! Don't let the decor fool you as this place serves up some of the best BBQ and home made vinager based BBQ sause I've ever had. Only open until 3:00PM so get there early. It's usually packed at lunchtime, but the serice is so fast you can be in and out, and satisified in 20 minutes. ENJOY!
