My husband read the reviews for this restaurant and thought that is was a slam dunk-But it was terrible food...the rib eye sandwich was laden with fat, the french fries were not crisp-the soup was canned at best. Won't be going back.
Awesome!.
I visited the Tryon House the other day and was impressed with the quality, quantity and price of the food.
The service was outstanding and they made me feel like I was a family member stopping by for dinner.
Everything was so good that I went back the next day and was not able to finish my dinner either time.
One nice thing is that they give you a complimentary bowl of soup as soon as you sit down. (It was chicken noodle when I went).
Super good home cooking. Be sure to check it out.
Highly Recommended!! Great for kids too!. I can't believe someone gave this place so a poor review. I use to go to this location with my grandfather ever Thursday for dinner with his Ham Radio Club friends. They were go every Thursday before the weekly club meeting was held at the Salvation Army building close by. All the servers are extremely friendly. The food is amazing, very home cooked style. They have a wide variety of foods at low prices and the quantity is always more than you're expecting. It is very family friendly as well. There are always a lot of families and they make sure not only you but your children also are happy diners.
The Tryon House Restaurant (off of Woodlawn, at the light rail): A Somewhat Hidden Treasure!!.
I can't say enough good things about the Tryon House Restaurant (off of Woodlawn, on Exmore). For over five years now, on an average of once a week, our family has driven 20 miles round trip, to eat there.
The food is always great; the servers are very friendly; the portions are very generous; the prices are very good; and, the place is always super clean!! They offer a variety of home cooked / Greek style food that is about as good as it gets -- with wonderful meats, fresh vegetables, and salads.
A group of about 20 of our closest friends always go there together to celebrate birthdays, as they are so friendly, accommodating, and consistently serve great food at a great price.
The Tryon House was highly recommended to me by a very good friend of mine, who was a police officer in Charlotte at that time -- who was very familiar with the eating establishments in the South Charlotte area. Since then, we have noticed, time and time again, that "Charlotte's finest" / the police officers are, indeed, some of the Tryon House's most regular customers, as they know, from experience, where you should, or shouldn't, go for a decent meal in the area.
Stellar Restaurant. I was a Flight Attendant for Mesa Airlines out of Charlotte, and when me and my fellow FAs got there, we lived at the Holiday Inn Woodlawn. At LEAST 5 times a week we ate at Tryon House. The food was excellent, the service was awesome, the place was ALWAYS brimming with people. For the low prices, the quantity of food was HUGE. I'd recommend this to anyone. GREAT restaurant.
Less Expectations. A restaurant in a shopping center? Come on! It seems to me that from the terrible food and service that you can tell that this manager cares more about makes his bread from rent than from the restaurant itself. I recommend the management give the restaurant more attention. But until then, your just wasting your time and money by dining there.
