Inexpensive barbecue is the main draw at this reliable Southeastern chain..
In Short
Owner Sonny Tillman has been serving the same Southern barbecue and fixings since 1968. A common roadside stop, Sonny's offers low prices and barbecue; roomy booths, wagon-wheel chandeliers and homey craft art are the standard dining room decor. House barbecue sauce, available sweet, regular or hot, spices up large helpings of smoked beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ribs. Sides like fresh fried okra, onion rings and barbecue beans complement the entrees.
How is the catering?. I have been to the restaurant and the food was good, however I would like to know if anyone has used their catering service and if so, how was your experience. What did you like and what did you dislike? My daughter has an upcoming wedding and I really want everything to be perfect. Anyone have a catering review to post?
Good restaurant for a quick-meal.
Tried Sonny's on a friend's recommendation...
Liked the ribs very much, and the sides were plentiful. The staff was super-friendly. The restaurant is AWESOME to be non-smoking!! Perhaps needed a little more attention to the clean-up detail after table service but it was a pretty busy evening there. Will definitely return.
Excellent barbecue. I've always enjoyed Sonny's barbecue regardless of where. I think the ribs are meaty and delicious and the sides are wonderful. Go Sonny's Go!!
good value. It IS a chain barbeque restaraunt, so you wont find the BEST in town but the value and selection make this a thumbs up
Good food and a family atmosphere. It is a clean place with good food. The kids are welcome and the buffets are wonderful. My entire family eats here.
sonny's at the top!. my experiance at sonny's was astonding as soon as we entered it wasnon stop custemer sevice.sald bar was verry good with a verity to choose from.food was served pretty quikly.food quility was superb.all in all it was a very delightful expirance.
not great. I love ribs, but this place just doesn't do it for me. IT is average at best
Red tinged meat unappetizing. The barbecue at Sonny's is at best not worthy of true NC barbecue. It has a red discoloration, supposedly from their cooking process. The flavor is not very complex and does require their sauce to be edible. The BBQ chicken is terribly dry and their ribs are fatty and not very meaty. They serve plenty of greasy fries and loads of dry garlic toast to fill you up. The baked beans are soupy and the beans are mealy with not much flavor. The cole slaw is also soupy and not fresh in appearance.
DO NOT GO!. If you want good "Q", stay away from Sonny's. The meat is not good at all. The sauce is the best thing to mask the taste of the liquid smoke that is used in excess.
