Restaurant is insulting to an entire culture!. If you ate nothing but processed food your whole life then maybe you think few vegetables put together can be called delicious. Here's my challenge to all of you who had anything remotely nice thing to say about this place. Instead of wasting your money at this restaurant, save some cash and travel outside mecklenburg county and even perhaps out of the country. Then, maybe you'll understand what words like delicious, tasty, savoring actually mean. Thai are gracious hosts and have an indulging cuisine. Both things are absent from here. The owner of this place is laughing to the bank making fools of everyday patrons who have no idea what delicious means. If you frequent this place, take a long hard look in the mirror because it's people like you who settle for anything that as a nation we are in money mess. If you pay for something then atleast expect some quality in return!
Not Thai-riffic, But Terrific Enough. Decent food. Pad Thai a trifle dry. Best Thom Kai Gai I have ever tasted. Great and friendly service.
The Best Thai Food.
I ate at the Thai Orchid last night, it was as good as it was years ago when they opened, I actually followed them from Central Avenue.
I've eaten Thai from New York to Miami to LA to San Francisco and it is by far my favorite restaurant.
When I read the negative review on this site my first thought was "they must own a Thai restaurant and are competing for business, or they know nothing about Thai food, because this is not true"
The food was perfect and the servers are always so gracious. I love this place and the people.
Totally worth it!.
I find it interesting that a previous reviewer fusses that Thai Orchid is not authentic but then goes on to fuss because they aren't adventurous. Ummm, which is it??? I've tried many Thai restaurants in town and Thai Orchid is consistently the best, specifically concerning the taste and quality of the dishes. The setting is also very pleasant, and I love the staff. I think some people may be confused about what constitutes rudeness vs. a lack of traditional Southern perkiness that they come to expect in many of the wait staffs in Charlotte. The staff here is great, and they are very funny and conversational if you engage them like normal human beings instead of treating them like servants.
BTW, the Red Coconut curry is excellent.
Good Thai Food. We went here on a Saturday night, and it was not crowded at all. Got seated right away, and had ample time to order. The selection was good and a lot of items can be made vegetarian as well. The chicken was tender and coconut curry was amazing. Service was prompt, and food was fast and hot. I do reccomend this little gem in south Charlotte.
pretty sad.... Not even close to authentic. To know the pride the people in Thailand take in their food and how directly related to quality of life it is, I can honestly say they should be ashamed. Very unadventurous, but I suppose the people who continue to eat there are to blame for that as well, for god sakes order something other than Pad Thai. Oh, and just because it comes out in a flamming dish doesnt mean its authentic.
Avoid this restaurant altogether. The most rude staff I have ever encountered!! My main entree was the Curry Duck and the hair was still attached to the skin. I was appauled and went to ask if I could speak to the manager....when I told her the problem she looked confused! I asked if she could take the Curry Duck off the bill. After I went to my table she arrived and told me that I ordered it so, I need to pay for it and slammed the bill down and walked away abruptly. After this incident I paid the bill and left everything as is and vowed never to go back.
Best Thai Food in Charlotte. Well, if you have any taste buds or know anything about authentic Thai food you would certainly go here. I have been to every Thai restaurant in Charlotte and Matthews; this is by far the best. Thai Orchid is rated in the Top 10 in restaurants in Charlotte and the food is excellent. The other person that made a recommendation concerning this restaurant is way off base. I live near this place and dine there often and each time it has been wonderful. The staff is cheerful providing quick service; and each time I recieve a hello and goodbye. It is not great for large parties unless you call ahead because the dining area is small and they are always full of customers especially on a friday or saturday nights. The pad thai is wonderful for newcomers to Thai food and for those who like spice can certainly find something on the curry menu. They do infact have YELLOW CURRY which is fried rice with meat containing pineapple served in a pineapple half I highly recommend this dish.
Will Not Go Back.
This is the first Thai restaurant my fiance and I have tried in Charlotte. We were very disappointed with the food. The pad thai sauce tasted like ketchup and was lumpy. It had been sitting for hours because a big chunk of it formed into a rounded corner of a pan--this chunk was hidden under some loose noodles in the presentation of the dish.
We also got massaman curry with chicken, which contained a bit of chicken with two pounds of potatoes and carrots. The flavor was okay, but it was too thin. Not enough rice was provided with the curry. We were also disappointed that neither yellow nor green curry were on the menu.
No one acknowledged us on our way out. I will not go back to Thai Orchid, nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if it is your first time trying Thai food.
Fresh, exotic foods and excellent presentation have helped Thai Orchid blossom on the local scene..
With a plain pattern of orchids on the wallpaper, this place doesn't feel much like a traditional Thai restaurant. The Thai servers even slip in a "y'all" from time to time. It's a bright, airy place: ethnic for those who might be timid about ethnic. South Charlotte couples and familiesAmerican and Asiancrowd the restaurant on weekend nights.
All your Thai favorites are here: pad thai, fried noodles, soups, salads curry dishes and stir-fry, available with a choice of seafood and meat. The meals are uniformly excellent ... the shrimp tender, the vegetables bright. Treat yourself to one of the house specialtiesfried whole fish in curry sauce, jumbo shrimp in a clay pot, fried rice served in a pineapple, or seafood in oyster sauce served in an egg noodle basket. You'll have enough for leftovers, and that's a good thing.
