Great Spot. Although it's not the best place in South Park, it's the favorite of the locals. It's dishes are delicious without the $20+ price and the comfortable atmosphere is welcoming to romantic dates or large families. The quality of service and food is miles ahead of an applebee's or ruby tuesdays, however, if you want the best in town this is not the place, go to the Capital Grille uptown. It's a great restaurant for any occasion and also an excellent bar for an after hours spot with friends. No compaints about Harpers at all, not to mention the "to go go" is GREAT for a quick lunch!

A diverse menu means there's something for everyone, no matter what the crowd.. In Short
The setting emanates warmth: brick walls, dark woods and cleverly grouped seating areas give a cozy feel, perfect for conversation. From chicken to steak, from pastas to salads, Harper's has it all. The soup of the day never disappoints, and hungry diners can always count on one of the hickory wood-fired pizzas to fill them up and provide leftovers for breakfast.

Magic Night. The food at Harper's is just a notch above average. About what we expected in this part of town. We felt we got great value for our money. What keeps us coming back though, is the amazing service. The attention to the customer's needs is top notch and unrivaled in Charlotte. They also have a treasure in their "casual entertainment"; a bar magician in the style of old time Chicago Fine Restaurants. This alone is worth the trip to Harper's.

Would easily give it another try. And that's not to say that anything was necessarily wrong that they need to fix. Extemely busy Friday night. We were a party of 4 with one person in a wheelchair. I made reservations for 7:30. We arrived at 7:20 and were told it would be about 15 minutes. No problem there since we were early. However, much of the restaurant seating are booths which can't accomdodate the w/chair and slowed our getting seated. The host/manager was extremely attentive and kept me up on options as they came. We seated at about 7:40. Overall, food was above average and won't quibble with whether the entrees (Baked herbed 1/2 chicken; New Orleans BBQ shrimp over rice; BBQ Beef Brisket; mini pizza) were $1 or $2 more than they should have been. Only the BBQ Brisket was questionable. Harpers may advertise and charge upscale, but this is a totally casual eatery.

Local Loyalty Strands Visitors Upstream. One of the first in the family of Harper's Inc. restaurants, this is a local favorite whose interior reminds you of a more homely Houston's Restaurant (and it's bright enough to actually see your server at Harper's). We had the Seared Ahi Tuna and the house special that day, a blackened shrimp stuffed trout. The Ahi tuna seemed a weak copy of an identical dish from the Houston's chain. The trout was tasty--well, the part that was cooked all the way. There was so much attention to detail in the dishes offered--so why the rushed service and lack of detail to preparation? Perhaps it's local loyalty that keeps this place afloat. The better bet is to avoid this overpriced eatery and spend slightly more at it's sister restaurant Upstream, located in Phillips Place. -KE
