Great service and food.. I took my family here and we were all pleased. From the drinks to the artichoke dip appitizer. We will go back many times to try more of the great entrees. The pork chops is a must try.
Not a place to have a catered event. Not very impressed with the private party event. The cheese tray looked like I could have gone to Costco and bought a bag of square cheese and put it on a platter. There were only 2 kinds of little square block cheese and carrotts and celery, they called that a veggie tray and they charge $10.00 a person for that! Are you kidding me! The patio is nice.
Good food but GREAT atmosphere and service.
My wife and I went to Village Tavern last night for our first "date" night since our newest addition was born 4 weeks ago. I have been to it numerous times in the past and this experience is fairly typical.
I had some great wine and our appetizer was very good (Spinach Tortilla Dip). My wife had the Grilled Chicken Spinach Salad and said it was pretty good. I had the BBQ pizza - always very good.
But what made the night so great was sitting out on the patio on (what has become a rarity) a nice fairly cool night and we had a wonderful server (named "Brittany" I think). She was conversational but not overly talkative or intrusive, met our every need and was right there with drinks and advice (when needed). It was a wonderful experience...
Great Outdoor Seating, Mediocre Food.
Had dinner on Friday evening at the Village Tavern in Southpark. I have dined here dozens of times over the past couple of years and every time nothing stands out to me.
We had made reservation for inside at 7pm, because they do not take reservations for outdoor seating. Not to blamed for as people take their time when sitting outside and they cannot guarantee a table at certain times. Upon arriving, we checked with the outdoor hostess and she said that there should be a table ready shortly. Ten minutes later, we were seated.
For an appetizer we ordered the fried calamari which is always fantastic. It comes with a tangy and spicy glaze for dipping which is a nice contrast from the light flavor and texture of the calamari rings.
For main course my girlfriend ordered the Greek flatbread. She said she thought it was OK, but when I tried a piece it was very bland and dry. I know that chicken and feta on a piece of bread with an olive compote is not the most thrilling of culinary adventures, but it just seemed like something was missing all around. I had ordered the shrimp risotto which was just "O.K." as well. The risotto came with 6 medium shrimp which was a fair portion. It was cooked with sauteed spinach and roma tomato slices. The main problem I had with the risotto was that it was basically a soup being that there was way too much liquid in the bowl it was served in. Aside from being a soupy consistency, the flavor and portions were on mark.
The problem with Village Tavern in my opinion is that they suffer from "large menu syndrome". Cheesecake factory is huge victim to this as well. Restaurants try to make a menu so diverse and large so they can draw in more people, but the quality of the food goes down because they have so much to prepare. The ingredients are not as fresh, portions of meals are prepared way ahead of time and just loses quality immediately.
The patio is a great place for summer drinks and a casual dinner with friends and/or family. Inside dining is nice but small area so make reservations or you could be waiting for a while. Drink specials are always pretty good for a restaurant, especially on Thursdays for 1/2 off all liquor drinks.
Great food and service. I took my clients here for a late lunch and was so pleased with the whole experience. I usually have my favorite places to take clients so I don't look bad if the place is bad but I heard great things about this place and would recommend it to anyone. The homemade chips were tasty.
Great food and service.... This was one of the first places I ate at when I moved here and is by far my favorite. The porkchops are out of this world. Its not uptight but its not low class either. Just a great place to either have a drink or take the family. I am very happy this place was recommended to me.
OK food, not so good service.. We recently visited Village Tavern for lunch. This restaurant has been in Charlotte for many years. I ate there right after it opened and remember it being a good experience. This recent visit was not very good. Our waiter spoke so fast we could not understand what he was saying. He seemed very frantic. After studying the menu we ordered appetizers. About 5 minutes later we ordered entrees. Not much time passed and our entrees were delivered to our table but no apps. I told the server we had not received our apps yet. I mentioned it would be nice to have the apps first, she offered to take the entrees away, but not wanting to be difficult I declined. Overall the mixed app plate was very good and a decent sized portion. My friends burger was good. I ordered shrimp scampi and it was very greasy and overloaded with garlic and this is coming from a garlic lover!
Great food as a treat. I work on the same block as the VT. At about 15$ for lunch it's not my usual fare; it's a treat. Especially during the outdoor months- they have a huge patio for dining. Ive read the other reviews and tend to agree that the service needs improvement. My observation is that they are understaffed. However, the food is great. My favorite dish is the rainbow trout; I've had that about 6 times now. Oh, I forgot to mention- it's fortunate I walk there because the parking lot is always full.
Humm, oh well, good luck.
We visited this establishment after hearing about it on the LINK radio 107.9.
We had Marinated Flank Steak and Braised Short Ribs. It took the better part of 35 minutes to get the food after it was ordered, which was good but not excellent. This was after waiting 45 minutes for a table and sending up flares for a waitress. The Flank Steak was suppose to have Garlic Mashed potatoes but I believe they forgot the potatoes somewhere in the preparation, It could be safe to say no Vampires frequent this place.
Like the other reviews, the ability of the wait staff is in serious doubt.
the menu maybe four star, but the staff is not.
While waiting for our table, we finally had to sit at the bar. We were as good as not there after we paid for our drinks.
Our ages are in the 50's definitely not a place for anyone over 30.
Delicious Food & Great Seating but Terrible Service!. This place well...the food is fabulous, the outdoor seating is one of the best in Charlotte, the service was pretty bad. As the previous person wrote...be prepared to wait for quite some time for a table if there is warm weather. Although while you wait you can order a drink and stand/sit outside enjoying the weather and people watching. The food was exemplary for this type of restaurant. I highly recommend the Bacon Wrapped Scallions or the Blackened Soft Tacos. Both were a great twist on an old favorite. However the service was horrible, the waitress spent alot of time talking to the next table about how "hot" their son was. Before we were seated they attempted to make 3 people share a menu because they were running low and then only gave us 2 sets of silverware and 2 napkins for 3 people. One of the busboy/hosts pointed his finger at us and gave an attitude when we asked for more silverware. The bartender was very rude he never once smiled, asked us how we were or anything like that, then while giving him our drink order he walked away in the middle of the order! The waitress never came back after our food was brought to us and we had to flag her down to bring our check. But I gave it 4 stars because everything else was great and I am hoping that they were just having a rough night!
