The Scene
There are few better activities in Charlotte than spending a spring afternoon lounging on the tavern's huge patio, sipping a cold beer and munching on one of the restaurant's appetizers. The patio overlooks a SouthPark wooded scene rather than a parking lot or a street. Appetizer-wise, the hand-cut potato chips or the spinach dip are delicious. The salads also are worthy offerings.

This was one of the first places I ate at when I moved here and is by far my favorite. The porkchops are out of this world. Its not uptight but its not low class either. Just a great place to either have a drink or take the family. I am very happy this place was recommended to me.

We recently visited Village Tavern for lunch. This restaurant has been in Charlotte for many years. I ate there right after it opened and remember it being a good experience. This recent visit was not very good. Our waiter spoke so fast we could not understand what he was saying. He seemed very frantic. After studying the menu we ordered appetizers. About 5 minutes later we ordered entrees. Not much time passed and our entrees were delivered to our table but no apps. I told the server we had not received our apps yet. I mentioned it would be nice to have the apps first, she offered to take the entrees away, but not wanting to be difficult I declined. Overall the mixed app plate was very good and a decent sized portion. My friends burger was good. I ordered shrimp scampi and it was very greasy and overloaded with garlic and this is coming from a garlic lover!

I work on the same block as the VT. At about 15$ for lunch it's not my usual fare; it's a treat. Especially during the outdoor months- they have a huge patio for dining. Ive read the other reviews and tend to agree that the service needs improvement. My observation is that they are understaffed. However, the food is great. My favorite dish is the rainbow trout; I've had that about 6 times now. Oh, I forgot to mention- it's fortunate I walk there because the parking lot is always full.
