What People Are Saying About Moosehead Grill

The Scene – This long-time favorite among Charlotteans is located in an old Pizza Hut. Outside, it isn't much to look at; inside, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The place teems with regulars, the jukebox blares and beer flows from multiple taps. Service--just like the setting--is casual and friendly. – – The Food – The menu features fresh, high-quality bar fare along with a few reasonably priced, creative specials. Chicken wings are among the best in town, and include fiery honey and habanero "bee stings" as well as spicy, island-flavored Jamaican jerk wings.…
Editor's Tips
- When to Go:
- Moosehead is one of the few eateries that serves as late as 2am, making it a prime late-night stop for uptown's bar-hoppers.
- Where to Sit:
- Snag a seat on the large patio in warmer months. It's a great place to kick back and enjoy an ice cold beverage with your friends.
- Save Money:
- Trying to stick to a budget? Stop in during the week for the $6 lunch special, which rotates daily.

I was having a much needed dinner with wife..very busy schedules. "mentally challenged" guy comes up to other restaurant to tell me "that guy" was there..again. It was 9:45pm, No families were there and I never had to raise my voice. I did say Get the "@#$%" out..your boyfriend's friend got up and left. It was over right then. Your boyfriend was the one raising his voice. No drinks were paid for..did not expect it. I can not speak for the "mentally handicapped" guy...but this is not the time for your friend to to be hanging around on Montford..right down from where accuser works..innocent or not.. . your friend is a liability. Are you sure your Southern baptist?..because I heard Northern baptists drink...what would your father think.
Very Disrespected

My first experience at Moosehead grill was last night. My boyfriend and I went with a friend we hadn’t seen in a while. At first everything was ok besides the slow service. We sat down at a booth and noticed a guy walking very fast by our table yelling something we couldn’t make out. He walked by a third time and shouted at our table that he would no longer serve us. We were highly confused until he took it upon himself to tell us that our friend that we hadn't seen in a while was accused of something he didn’t do (months ago and had nothing to do with that bar or any one in that bar) and because we were with him we needed to get the f*** out because he didn't want business from people who were associated with this guy. He then began to tell us that we were not welcome there and he had no respect for us and we needed to leave. As the conversation went on I realized this gentleman was mentally handicapped and I stopped my boyfriend from getting upset with him and told him to please send the owner to our table.
When the owner came to our table he asked us which guy (referring to our friend, by the way was innocent of this accusation) was the one who was accused. Our friend told the owner it was him. The owner told him to get the F*** out now and grabbed his paid-for, full mixed drink off the table and dumped it out.
When my boyfriend tried to talk to him calmly he began to get loud with my boyfriend. I then tried to talk to him and he wouldn't’ even acknowledge me. He just apologized to me for the situation and continued his wine drinking.
When we left I tried to make sense of the situation. Raised from a Southern Baptist family, I am all about morals and I completely understand this was his bar, and if he didn't want someone in his bar, that is his choice. However, the way he handled it was juvenile and extremely uncalled for. There were families there, and they heard the foul language and yelling coming from the owner and the mentally handicapped gentleman. As an employee of a small business that my family owns, I am appalled at how this situation was handled.
I hope this is a warning to everyone to not attend this bar. Reading other comments people have written about the owner and this bar, it sounds like he picks and chooses who is allowed in to his bar. If your not his pick, or if you are with someone he doesn’t like ,you will end up getting yelled at and cussed out. Please avoid this bar. It’s not worth it.

Great bar! Never had a bad drink or service there. They also have decent food and great wings. Their mixed drinks are top-notch. Great patio area as well
- Pros: Strong Drinks!
I like the wings and friendly local atmosphere

I have been going there since I have lived in the area (over 10 years) and always enjoyed the Moose. The food is good (especially the specials) and it has a friendly atmosphere. Its good for the family place during the day and an adult hang out at night. The thing I like is the staff has belligerent people leave so you can enjoy a beer with your friends without having to worry about encountering with idiots or someone who is looking for a fight. It always has that everyones welcome hang out atmosphere. I like the wings.
- Pros: great place
- Cons: it gets really busy weekend nights
Bring the kids, take the grown-ups somewhere else

The Moosehead is a true Charlotte classic with comfy, casual digs, inventive drinks, and great bar food ... all at reasonable prices.
But do not be mistaken -- it IS a family restaurant. Children are welcome and fawned upon. If you're looking for a place to let your hair down and party like a grown-up, you may well find yourself next to a table of feral toddlers bombarding you and yours with slimy Cheerios. We have been mortified on two seperate occasions by bringing out of town guests -- then finding ourselves seated next to a wailing high chair quintet.
So, got kids? Lots of 'em? Want to take then somewhere really cool? The Moosehead is all about you.
As for my friends and I, we prefer the company of other adults. And we can afford to tip well when our server is not constantly preoccupied with mopping up mac-and-cheese spitup at the next table.
You go, families ... treat your sippie-cup crowd to the endless delights of the Moose.
If you are kid-free, or at least have the sense to hire a sitter on occasion, don't come here looking for a getaway. There are plenty of other venues that offer great food and drink as well as a live music scene.
