Editorial Review for Fenwick's – by Susan McDevitt
The Food
Salad platters make a nice lunch, with sizeable helpings of tuna or chicken salad and fresh fruit slices. The accompanying homemade muffins--made fresh every morning--are not to be missed. One great lunchtime choice is the hamburger, which is thicker and juicier here than at many other lunch places. Other solid options are croissant sandwiches, chicken-broccoli casserole or quiche of the day. In the evening the menu goes upscale a bit to include a filet, several chicken items and nightly specials. Just don't expect anything too cutting-edge: You'll find nary a crusted sea bass here.
The Scene
This is Myers Park/Eastover, baby, all the way. Midday is populated by the "ladies who lunch," a good number of whom have silver hair. The dinner crowd is generally composed of couples or groups who met way back in the early days of Country Day School. The decor is straight out of the '80s: a mauve and dark gray color scheme with noticeably peeling paint around the four booths. A TV runs in the corner for bored solo diners. --Susan McDevitt
