From artist to gallery owner, with a focus on print work..
The Skinny
Slightly more than five years ago, Blue Pony owner Mary Lou Sussman might have scoffed at the idea of owning her own gallery. Less than a year later, the gallery that was once showing her work had become her work. A printmaker herself, Sussman wanted to emphasize that particular medium in her gallery. She has a collection of original etchings, woodcuts, linoleum cuts, and a comprehensive anthology of monoprints and monotypes. The Blue Pony shows two-dimensional art of many sorts, with a preference for anything that pushes the envelope.
The Goods
Sussman has an eye for contemporary work that can pull sophistication and accomplishment out of simple and primitive influences. If you like to learn new things, Sussman will pass the torch if you are willing to take it. She teaches printmaking classes in her own on-site studio.
Visit the Blue Pony during the Historic North Charlotte Gallery Crawl the first and third Friday of each month from 6pm to 9:30pm.
