What People Are Saying About Cajun Queen

In Short – Like other restaurants in the Stanleyville section of the Elizabeth neighborhood, this one is located in an old house. Barbecued shrimp and spicy fried oysters that come with a tangy dipping sauce may well be the best two appetizers in town. Diners can order their choice of crawfish, chicken or shrimp served three different ways: etouffee, Diane or Creole. Each varies in degree of spicy, with etouffee toward the have-plenty-of-water end.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The Seventh Street Gator Band, a bunch of old-timers who pipe out Dixieland jazz seven nights a week, plays upstairs. The band is good but deafening. Don't sit up there with a first date.
- The Extras:
- Want to try your own hand at Cajun cookery? The restaurant's special spice, Bayou Blend, is available for purchase.
Good but far from great!!!

I went to Cajun Queen with three other friends tonight (Monday) night. To start off with they ran out of bread before before out Gumbo and appetizers were brought out to us. When the Gumbo came out it was cold and so was the shrimp in the Gumbo. We sent it back. The Waitress told us that they were having a problem in the kitchen which is not a good sign. We were wondering what we were in for next. If this was any indication of what the main course was like, then I didn't plan on coming back. They brought the Gumbo back out from the kitchen and it actually had good flavor. Good use of spices. It was spicey but not too spicey. I ordered the Pan Sauteed Duck breast. It tasted very good. The meat was tender and cooked just right for me, medium rare. The sauce, potatos, and other veggies were excellent. I was very happy with the main course. The waitress offered desert. I had a chocolate cookie pie. I should have never ordered it. The desert was terrible. It was hard, dry, and had little flavor.
Overall, its hard to say if I would go back in the near future or recommend Cajun Queen. I am on the fence and so is the rating I am going to give CQ.
I did like the main course, the atmosphere was cool, the wait staff was okay. The fact that they did not have any bread, the appetizers were alright, and the desert was downright terrible made me a little upset.
I wish the kitchen staff could make a complete 3 course meal were every course was good-excellent given the prices of the dishes.
It is hard to say but maybe the food might have been better if we didn't go on a Monday evening.

My husband and I wanted something different, and good, so after doing a little bit of research we decided to try the Cajun Queen. Our experience there was horrible, we had reservations for 8:00pm, we were not seated until 9:10, ok this made us think the food must be awesome, oh NO, The food was not seasoned well to say the least, and the portions were extremely small. I ordered the platter (sounds like a lot) I had 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, and a small peice of fish, My red beans and rice were cold. we did not get one refill on our drinks, after continuously asking, our server kept forgetting. The only good thing was the music, which is not jazz, but they still sounded ok.

Honey...I wouldnt waste my $ on this restaurant. They have very little variety and they only offer leg quarters (4 chic.) CAN I GET A BREAST! not sure what other meats they sell. Greens too spicy and not enough flavor. Wont go back!

I was looking for a nice romantic place for me and my husband to have dinner on new years. The Cajun Queen was more than I expected. Nice atmosphere, great food, and wonderful location. Being creole myself, its hard to find great Cajun food so far from home. I do recommend Cajun Queen, and already have to my friends. Thank you for a great start to our new year! Look forward to going again!
Nice place but the food is not authentic.

My wife and I visited this restaurant last year because it was voted the best Cajun Restaurant in the Charlotte area. We relocated to the Charlotte area from New Orleans a couple of years ago, and we want to try a restaurant with authentic Cajun food so I am not required to cook for hours in my own kitchen. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the service; however, if you are going there for authentic Cajun food, you would do better skip Cajun Queen and eat at Bojangles. The sauce on my meal was watered down and it had so much cayenne pepper in it that I had to drink two glasses of water to finish it. I told the server about it and we were given a free desert, but I don't suspect I will ever go back unless someone insists and is treating me.
