What People Are Saying About Comet Grill

The Scene – Many neighborhood pub/restaurants are content with mediocrity, but not the Comet Grill. The ground beef is grilled to just the level the law dictates (the rarer the tastier, but health is a concern), the kaiser bun is a step above, and the veggie toppings are always fresh. If you're wise enough to go for the cheese, you've made the right choice (especially if that choice is pepper jack). – – The Food – Fries are cut right there in the kitchen and ladled with seasoning that sets them apart from any other version of potato ever seen in a bar. Other menu…

- The Extras:
- On a given night, you're liable to encounter a host of musicians propped against the bar, drinking a cold Pabst or Johnson's. Other nights, they'll be in the corner with guitars and microphones, belting out some of the area's best roots rock.

Had lunch today (take out) from this place on recommendation from a colleague. While I am always raving about another dilworth restaurant's wings, he said this place has wings that are better. Blasphemy...But I decided to give it a shot.
Busy today around the office, I decided to get take out. Called in the order for 6 wings, buffalo; and a small side salad. Went over to pick it up and upon walking in, it hit me, this is a cool little place. Its very inviting but rustic. Everything seems clean and the staff is laid back and friendly. There is not a whole lot of seating, but something tells me that it doesn't get slammed for eating. The kitchen is a combo of secluded in the back and actually right behind the bar which seems like it could make for a bartender/cook clash if its busy, but it's nice to see the food being prepped in front of you every now and then.
The drink specials are some of the best around, Half off all alcohol on Wednesdays (for those who don't work, or don't care going in hungover in the middle of the week). Every day you can find $1 highlifes or PBR, or some sort of good $2 pint which makes it an inexpensive place to have a good time.
Now to the food. I had so-so expectations of this place going in and was blown away by the quality and taste of the food. The salad was a nice bed of romaine with chopped fresh tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers with homemade ranch. The wings were actually really good. Nice and tender, non fatty, crispy texture and full of good flavor. Cooked to perfection.
I am glad I took the leap of faith in the colleague to try this place out. I will definitely be referring this place to many friends and cannot wait to try other food on the menu.
- Pros: Surprisingly Welcoming, Good Food, Inexpensive, Laid Back
- Cons: Hidden in a sketchy looking building
GREAT MUSIC, Great Food, Great Folks!

I may be a bit prejudice since I've known the Wickers since dirt, but this truly is a great place to meet friends, have a cocktail or four, maybe a bowl of soup on a cold winter day or a chicken salad sandwich in the HOT summer day. If you can make it past 9PM, then settle back for at least one set from the plethora of music available. Some of the best musicians around and you never know who might show up unexpected.
Many thanks to John and family for all the support they and their friends give to Holy Angels too.... Just too many good things to say about a great spot... Come send some time lunch time, late afternoon and on into the evening.. Spend money the do need to improve the A/C... Love you guys.
- Pros: Most everything; food, music, people
- Cons: Poor Air Conditioning
Come for the entrees, stay for the fries

This local tavern/ diner serves very good sandwiches and burgers, but even better fries. Made with all of the right ingredients, why would you say no to the French fries? The employees are very nice and friendly often talking with customers when they aren't busy. The live music is awesome every time and the outdoor seating is a nice touch too. However, the service can be pretty slow during the busy hours. Oh yeah, be sure to come on St. Patrick's day, not for the beer, but for the great authentic Irish cuisine.
- Pros: Awesome burgers and FRIES, live music, friendly employees
- Cons: Slow Service Sometimes
Kick Back....Enjoy

What a neat place this is. The food is great and the employees are even better. I take my mentally disabled son there to eat occasionally and they treat him with dignity, not the usual weird looks and finger pointing we get all too often. I love this place and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who likes a little hideout to retreat to. Yup and the food is good too.
- Pros: Quick & friendly service
- Cons: Can't think of one
Great Local Music
by bestrealestateagent at Citysearch
Appearing regularly at the Comet are great musicians like the Willy Evans Trio and the Bill Noonan Band. Come out Saturday July 22nd and you might even get to hear one of the greatest vocalists i have ever had the pleasure of listening to - AK Plyler. He covers the hits better than the original artists who made them hits! The Comet is the place to be if you love neighborhood atmosphere and Nashville/Memphis quality music.
- Pros: The BEST music - great people
- Cons: Small and Cozy
