Disappointing at best. Fresh local ingredients but preparation was horrid. Bland and improperly cooked. Went with a group and the bill came to about $40 per person before the tip (plus we had no wine or beer), which would have been fine for a decent meal but was shockingly high for almost inedible food. All in all very surprised given the positive reviews here. On the bright side, the service was fine. Still, don't waste your time. Would have given it zero stars if possible.
Good Brunch Menu.
When I first started going to Monticello for brunch on the weekends, I absolutely loved it. The food was fabulous and it's nice to be able to sit outside on the sidewalk too.
However, recently we have been getting the token bad waiter of the restaurant over and over again. Getting this waiter has really made my experience dining there sub par. If you ever visit this place, just pray that you don't get that particular waiter. I probably won't return to the restaurant for some time now.
Upscale restaurant with delicious food, good service and convenient to the theatre.. Two friends and I went to Monticello before seeing The Lion King at the Belk Theatre. Our dinner was superb! The baked Brie appetizer was to die for; I would go back just for that! The lamb was cooked to perfection, and the peach cobbler (a la mode) was delicious (and huge!!) The service was delightful. The location is very convenient, and they have a parking garage with validated parking. I highly recommend it and plan to return soon.
WOW. I read the reviews that were already posted and decided to check this place out. I'm so happy I did. The service was unsurpassible!! I've never been to a restaurant with such a wait staff-enough can't be said about them. But this is a food review. Great food!! Wide variety from different parts of the world, best of German Wine, French Appetizers, Italian entrees, divine deserts. With the service and the food combined, it will be hard to find a better restaurant!!
Great Food...Even Greater Service. I took my vegetarian mother and "KFC-only" grandmother to this restaurant for a special treat. It didn't disappoint. There were enough non-meat appetizers to satisfy my mom (she ordered a delicious baked mushroom ravioli) and the chef modified a traditional meat dish to accommodate her. I had the halibut; grandma had the pork tenderloins. The food was quite tasty, but I was more impressed with the service. They made every effort to accommodate us -- my grandmother's in a wheelchair and when my mom was bothered by smoke from another room, they closed the doors without a fuss. A genuine friendly staff, upscale yet comfortable decor that's not pretentious. A very cool, old school kind of place. Don't forget to make a reservation. We were seated right away because of it.
Ahhhh....Monticello. That Monticello is attached to the greatest hotel in Charlotte is only one of the many reasons that this little pocket of sophistication holds a very special significance for my family and me. Our wedding rehearsal dinner at Monticello was like something out of a European movie. The incredible food, gorgeous flowers and beautiful decor made this a TRULY elegant dining experience which we will never forget.
