Worst service in a Mexican restaurant. As there was a very long wait for our favorite Mexican restaurant- Azteca- we decided to try Monterrey - Matthews which is walking distance from Azteca. BIG MISTAKE. There was no wait at Monterrey as the place was half empty which we soon found out why. Food was mediocre at best but service was HORRIBLE! We happened to have a coupon from "Citipass" which the waitress rudely said we could not use but would not give a reason why. When I asked to speak to a manger, we sat there for over 30 minutes , constantly asking for assistance from the many waiters who would hurry by us but would never help. After 30 minutes our waitress who had totally disappeared finally came back but had lost my credit card.

Will never eat in another Monterray restaurant again

Worst Mexican. The Worst Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to; lousy food, rude wait staff, if you have an iron clad stomach and no taste buds go on over, but for me and my family, we'll never spend our hardearned $ at Monterey again. The salsa tasted like tomatoe juice, chips were stale and cold, guacamole salad was equvalent of 2 tsps runny avocado slapped on a lot of old shredded lettuce with a 1/2 tomatoe slice (more core than tomatoe), dry rice, beans actually not all bad but wouldn't really know since the portion was about 2-3 tablespoons, Quesadilla was hard and had little or no cheese, simply not edible, Burrito with mystery meat? 4 out of 4 of us hated our meal, Just disgusting!

Best Mexican food in Charlotte!. My family has been going to this Monterrey for about 14 yrs. We love this place. We have tried many other Mexican restaurants in Charlotte and always come back to Monterrey. I saw a reviewer that said the food was nasty. They must have been smoking somthing that day because the food is great. Out of the hundreds of times I have been to this place I have had 2 things that I didn't like. The beef or chicken Fajitas are excellent as are the Tacos de Asada. My personal favorite is the Chimichangas, both beef and chicken are good but I like the beef ones best. The salsa is also great, if it's too hot they will bring you mild which is really mild. My wife always gets the Monterrey Quesadilla, which has fajita beef, onions and peppers on it, It's also really good. I have tried nearly everthing on the menu and haven't found much I didn't like. I recently went to a "real" Mexican restaurant after reading about it in a Charlotte publication. My family and I tried several things and were not impressed so we are back to Monterrey. Probably the only criticism I can think of is that they used to be bad about bringing part of the food out and then bringing the rest of the food 5 minutes later. They seem to have corrected this problem as of late.

Nasty food. The food at this resturant is nasty. Dont even try it. The salsa might have well come from walmart. If you love mexican food dont try this it's so close to being a Taco bell they just need a drive through.

I really like this place!. The food is great and the drinks are great. The service is good too.
