Check this place out!.
Our waiter Oscar took very good care of us - making the table-side guacamole just how I liked it (even though he teased me for not liking onions).
The fajitas were served sizzilng hot and with plenty of flavor.
If it wasn't for the very loud birthday party celebration at the table next to us it would have been perfect.
Good Mexican, Large Portion.
Had dinner at the newer location on Elizabeth Friday evening and overall it was a fairly good experience.
I had a gift certificate so decided to go all out on the food order. We had some queso with spinach, some beers and Fajitas de la casa for two.
As in any Mexican restaurant when you are seated you typically get some fresh tortilla chips and variations of salsa for dipping. I personally enjoy a good queso, so we ordered one with Spinach. The spinach was a little overwhelming and actually took a good portion of the queso away, I had to scoop about half of the spinach out in order to taste the cheese. Wouldn't suggest ordering it with spinach unless you really enjoy it.
For the main course, we ordered the Fajitas de la casa portion for 2 which was heftily priced at 27.00. After getting the plate, I realized why it was priced that way. It was at least 2lbs of mixed beef, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, pork, onions and peppers. This plate could actually feed 4 easily so take note on that. The meats were all good, but I had favored the Pork which was very tender and almost melt in your mouth. There was only one skewer of shrimp and it was covered in a mole sauce (I think) which made it a little unappetizing, I would suggest if you order this ask for the shrimp straight up. At the end we had over half left as left overs.
Every night they have drink specials and they are pretty good. Friday, when we were there, all drafts were $2, and they are good imported drafts. One thing I wish they had is more outdoor seating. This place has been open for over a year now and their excuse is still city permits. All of the other restaurants along the Elizabeth corridor have more than 2 tables outside, so not sure what the problem is.
All in all this place is good, but I do prefer another local Mexican restaurant over here. Just seems like less care and preparation is put into the plates here compared to the other establishment.
Good Food, Great Atmosphere!. I've been a fan of 1900 ever since they first opened in Charlotte off Park Rd. Now they've taken Mexican to the next level with their new, jazzed up location on Elizabeth ave. Tall ceilings, sparkling chandeliers, great bar and prices are still reasonable. Definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant! Great for weekends or a night on the town with Loft right above and uptown just a stones throw away!
