Amazing Sushi in Plaza Midwood. The food was great! Service was friendly and attentive as well! Met with couple of girlfriends after shopping around Plaza Midwood. We were looking for a restaurant using one of my search apps to get a great deal :). We ordered sushi to share and also a bowl of Vietnamese Noodle Soup / Pho for myself. I had Pho in many places in Charlotte, but Akahana definitely impressed me and I would come back again for it. Sushi was super fresh! I think this place is a hidden gem and would recommend it to anyone!

Sorry . . .. Met two friends here for dinner. Had the red curry with chicken and a VERY LONG HAIR. My one friend and I were disgusted. When we told the manager, she was unapologetic and told us the cooks where hairnets and asked what I had done with the hair!??

I had been there at least three times before and would have definitely gone back again. But, after the way we were treated--like some dine and dash deviants--I will NEVER go back.

Also, although, like I said, I'd been previously, the food was inconsistent (not bad, mind you, just different each time).

Anyway, it's unfortunate because I wanted so badly to make this a regular spot, but there is no way....

Great selection of sushi!. I have to admit that I was hesitant to go based on a few negative reviews, but everyone has their own experience. I went on a Wednesday night instead of the busy weekend & could not have been happier. We had a server named Gaylin (sp?) & he was really helpful about questions we had & offered his personal favorites. I have to say after eating the sushi & experiencing his friendly personality, I'll definitely be back. I can't speak for the other servers or have an opinion of the busy atmosphere of the weekends, but all I can say is that the sushi was excellent & fairly priced. A few rolls were a bit higher than other places, but you won't regret it!

My new favorite sushi place.... The Great:

Some of the best sushi I've had in Charlotte. I shared a sampling of nigiri and various rolls with a few friends. The atmosphere has a contemporary style and a soothing feeling. The waitstaff was kind and helpful and the menu is quite expansive.

The Good:

Another great restaurant to add to the collection of great eateries already in the area!

The Bad: None to speak of.

Boutique Style, Contemporary Flair, Large Menu. Had dinner at Akahana, which opened up recently in the not-so-lucky corner space of a shopping center on Central and The Plaza, in Plaza Midwood.

From the time you walk into the restaurant you can tell it's nothing like any of it's predecessors. Decorated in asian influences, it's sort of calming when you get inside, which I think is key to make people forget the neighborhood they are in, unfortunately. To the left you have what I would call more of a formal dining area, and to the right the bar/lounge and sushi bar. I definitely would recommend sitting in the lounge area, just is a better atmosphere. I'm not sure how it gets late at night, but I could see this being a good spot for Plaza-Midwood locals to meet up and have a couple cocktails in a more sophisticated atmosphere.

The menu is very large, almost too large. Any place with this many options, I am always weary about...If you have so many items on the menu, it tends to be mediocre at best. But so far, so good...Everything I had was great with no issues. With asian inspired cuisine ranging from Chinese to Japanese; Sushi to Thai, I'm pretty sure you can find something that pleases even the pickiest of eaters.

I had started with an appetizer of the crab wontons which came with a nice sweet chile dipping sauce. There were about 8 wontons, pretty good in size, so plenty to share if you're with a few friends. I also ordered two sushi rolls, both were very good and fresh in quality. I had tried a friend's chicken pad thai and it was nicely flavored, not too hot, not too sweet and the portion was enough to feed two easily.

I'm definitely looking to make a trip back, and hope that the plague of this location doesn't affect this attempt at a successful restaurant in that shopping center.
