Can't believe it's in Charlotte!.
I knew Charlotte had a few great places to eat, I just didn't know about this one. While getting a haircut at another hidden gem, Bang Bang Salon, my stylist suggested I try a place that shared a strip mall w/ a Family Dollar.
Intrigued, I walked over to Bistro La Bon. The lunch menu was refreshing, lots of seafood, unique sandwiches, and a few things i'd never heard of, but sounded great. I decided on one of the latter, the "Swedish Pyttipanna", wich is essentially a mix of small bits of Kielbasa, potatoes, and brisket, topped w/ a sunny side up egg. Before I recieved said lunch, however, I was presented w/ a green salad and fresh bread, all included, and all under $12.
By the time I left, all full of wonderful comfort food, I had made reservations for the following Friday. In short, if you're in Plaza Midwood, pull into the Family Dollar parking lot and give this place a try. I doubt you'll be dissapointed.
Sorry your dinner totally sucked.
Do not go to this restaurant unless you like slow, disorganized and apathetic service.
We had been hearing about this restaurant for some time, so were looking forward to a dinner out with another couple for Restaurant Week. We had 8:30 reservations. When we arrived the hostess told us that our table had just paid so it would be a few minutes. We waited, and waited, and waited in the bar area. I checked in with the hostess a few times over the 45 minutes and she had a new story each time to explain why we were not being seated. Finally, she seated us when we pushed her to do so (this time she told us that our table was ready but the server was backed up so they did not want to seat us). It went downhill from there. We order a bottle of wine; it took forever to come. We waiting increasingly long periods of time between courses and the four of us never received our food at the same time. We finally ordered desert, after some period of time the waitress told us they were out of one of the deserts two of us had ordered, as we did not care for the other two selections, she agreed to bring us a glass of wine instead. A good bit of time later, the manager came over to say that the owner would not let us order wine in place of the desert on the fixed price menu. We explained the experience we had had so far in the restaurant and obviously that was not a concern for either the restaurant manager or owner. Look, we understand that the place was busy, but the owner and manger had an opportunity to at least try to make things right – even if they did not want to substitute the wine for desert – with an apology, explanation, or offer of another alternative. The one apology of the evening came from the waitress as she brought our check - "Sorry your dinner totally sucked!" We all left, glad to be done with the place and will never go back – any place owned and run by people with such terrible service philosophies is not worth the time.
Bistro La Bon's Brunch.
Excellent Sunday Brunch! On a scale of 1-10....I GIVE IT A 10.
I rarely have the opportunity to go to brunch. I tried Bistro La Bon because it's in my hood and it's new.
Great food line up. Lots of color, textures, and tastes of food. Very Fresh. Very distinct and bold flavors.....
Mimosa was really good....
Atmosphere....laid back and slightly relaxed. The venue was comfortable and not too over the top. I liked that.
I will definitely be going back again soon.
Great chocolate waffles!.
Bistro La Bon is a cozy bistro located in the Family Dollar shopping center on Central Avenue. Because it has a small, poorly lit sign, it can be hard to spot. It specializes in Americanized European food. The prices are quite reasonable, from $5-$10 for appetizers, $13-$25 for an entree. You can either share an appetizer or two with friends over drinks or stay for nice dinner.
They have all you can eat brunch on Sundays and serve the best chocolate waffle I've had in my life, so much so that I wish they would put it on the desert menu. They recently got a liquor license an offer a nice selection of wine. The bartender can also whip you up any concoction you like. All in all, highly recommended!
Great new bistro!.
My boyfriend and I ate there last weekend and were very impressed! We had the Mushroom Brioche Tart for an appetizer. This is a MUST TRY! For the entree I had the Pan Seared Branzino and my boyfriend had the Ginger Roasted Salmon. It took everything in us not to lick the plate.
The atmosphere was very inviting and the service was on point. We can't wait to go back and try their Sunday buffet! Bistro LA Bon is a def a place you should try!
