Good Option for Mexican, But Not the Best.
Have eaten a couple times at Loco, and each time it's been decent. Connected to the same building as Kickstand Burgers it seems as Loco stays busier than the neighbor, but I am told that they are the same owners.
Anyways, down to the nitty gritty. The food is pretty good. Decent quality meats and flavor is good. The salsa is pretty darn good and has a kick to it. The queso is also a good appetizer to get if you're in the mood.
I ordered the fajitas the first time and i was far from impressed. The portions of the fajitas was far less than other competitors in the city and just didn't have the flavor that the others have. The next time up, I went on Tuesday and it's all you can eat Taco night for $7.50. I was pleasantly surprised by this deal and ended up getting it for dinner. They bring out 4 tacos to sand you choice of sides to start. You get to pick between 6 or so meat selections for your tacos which is nice. Once you're ready for more, you just tell the waiter and they bring them out shortly after. One thing to keep in mind, the tacos are like street tacos, simple tortilla/meat/cilantro and cheese combo. If you want certain accoutrement just be sure to ask the server when you order.
There are plenty of food and drink specials at this place and it has a nice personality. The waitstaff is friendly and the food is good enough to keep my repeat visits coming.
Beware If You Require Gluten Free Diet Or Have Food Allergy.
Having Celiac Disease is not an option. Medically, I HAVE to eat Gluten Free.
There are some great restaurants in Charlotte who offer 'GF' options and I figured I would give Loco Lime a shot.
I ordered the Chopped Chicken Mexican Salad, without Flour Tips and opted for Balsamic Vinaigrette. When the salad came out, it was surrounded with Flour Tips and the wrong dressing oozing over the side of the cup onto my salad.
I sent it back and informed the waitress. When the salad came back, everything looked and especially tasted great!
Then it happened. As I went in for my last bit I scraped the rest of the salad onto my fork and there sticking to the bottom of my dish, hidden under my lettuce was a FLOUR TIP!!! WTF?!?!??!?!!? Seriously!!!! I'm not one to gripe, but if you're gonna walk in the back, pluck the Flour Tips off and say you remade the salad and that it's now gluten free, at least cover your tracks a little better.
Sure, they comp'd my meal and gave me a gift card which was appreciated. It would have been much worse for Loco Lime had this been a Shellfish or Nut allergy where the afflicted person's airway closes when they become cross contaminated.
I can assure you this was the last time I eat at Loco Lime.
Lastly, I'm not sure where they read that rice contains gluten. I'd like to see where they get there information.
Beware if you have food allergies.
