Awesome service and prices

OK.. so I looked everywhere for a trustworthy mechanic. LOOK NO further than here. While I am used to being jerked around when I was in NYC and when I moved down here, I went to the HondaShop in 2002 and never looked back. They are the best. The waiting room is excellent.
My wife and I decided on what our new car purchase would be in large part based upon the fact they they also service Toyota.
They Treat Women Like Humans!
by PRISMJill at Citysearch
One of the things I liked about Jon when I first met him at his former HondaShop was that he never treated me like a "stupid woman," he always explained things to me before performing the work and NEVER has tried to take advantage of me as a female consumer. And since bringing Stephanie on board? Even better! She knows her stuff and yet never makes you feel stupid for asking a silly question. They've been taking care of my Hondas for nearly a decade and I would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone - female or male!
WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I was referred to Select Import by Just Inspections down the street when I failed my emissions inspection. Just Inspections first suggested I go to Toyota (the dealership, as my car as a Camry) because they thought my car's issues might be covered under the Toyota recall. Turns out my car was too old of a model, but I found it very impressive that Select suggested that instead of just doing the repair and taking the money.
Toyota could have repaired my car, but I called Select again and they quoted me several hundred dollars less than the Toyota dealership, so I went back to them. Car was taken care of quickly and efficiently. I had to drive the car another 30+ miles to be re-tested for emissions, but Select told me to come back and they'd check it out for me (free) before I had it reinspected. So I did, they checked it out quickly, and I passed my inspection.
This is a fabulous place with great customer service - especially Stephanie who I dealt with the whole time (and who also talked me through some stressful situations at the Toyota dealership). Id go there again in an instant and highly recommend it.
- Pros: customer service, cost
Friendly but Over Priced
by OldPhatUgly at Citysearch
I was referred to this establishment by Honda Works on Scaleybark.
Having grown up in the automobile business as a technician and service writer, I was pleased with the quality of customer service and friendliness of the staff. However, this establishment has some major short comings: (1) Relatively high diagnostic and rack fees ($16.50 & $41.25, respectively). Simply put, my wife and & I were charged $57.75 to be told that I had a bad alternator on my 2001 Lexus ES 330. This is a service that is performed for free at Auto Zone, Pep Boys and the like. However, not being in a position to take the vehicle to a parts establishment, I was relegated to paying nearly $60 for a service I could get for free elsewhere. (2) Over-Priced Parts: I was advised in the emailed estimate that my car needed a battery and alternator and while the total labor charge was quite reasonable ($130.25), the parts prices were exhorbitant ($89.99 for a battery and (get this) $284.85 for the alternator). A superficial online search for the part revealed I could purchase a new Duralast top-of-the-line replacement for a net of $124.99 (net of $90.00 core). (3) Medicore Expertise: When I queried the staff regarding the $284.85 price for the alternator and whether or not this was net of core, the staff was unable to provide me with a direct answer. In an attempt to show patience, I suggested that the matter be investigated overnight with an answer the next day. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle the next day expecting a $16.50 diagnostic fee, I was also charged the $41.25 rack fee and no mention was made of whether or not the $284.85 alternator price was net of core.
While the staff is extremely friendly, the parts' prices and rack fees are clearly out of line with what the market will bear. If you don't care how much you pay for these things, Select Import is the place for you. However, if you expect knowledgeable staff (core charges) and reasonable diagnostic and rack fees, I suggest you seek your repair service elsewhere.
In a nutshell, charging $575.50 to replace and alternator and battery is ridiculous.
- Pros: Friendly Staff
- Cons: Rack Fee, Over-Priced Parts, Mediocre Expertise
