No no it's past Loco Lime...just keep going a few more miles.
If you would like the "Mex" without the "Tex"in front of it, then please try Three Amigos. I like to think more and more of the Plaza-Midwood, Chantilly folks are going a little further down Central Ave. these days because it is like a freaking international festival over there.
Three Amigos is delicious, when I moved here from Greensboro I was concerned about finding a nice authentic restaurant that served great tacos. I need not have been concerned, though I hear Three Amigos is a fairly recent addition, whoever is cooking the chicken for the tacos has been doing it for years...tender..well-seasoned...simmered for hours before being served...you know what I'm talkin' about. I would love to tell you about the other stuff but everytime I go I get the chicken tacos. Great place, friendly, local folks...please go support this place. Give Loco Lime and Cantina a break one night, they'll survive.

Hola Chica Guapa.
Three Amigos is that hole in the wall, small business that you seek out when visiting a new city. The food is high quality and the margaritas are perfect tart, no pre made, high corn syrup mix here! The best Mexican food in Charlotte. Must try their guacamole and the queso with chorizo.

Fresh, authentic, delicious, inexpensive.
My sister and I grew up in a heavily Mexican-influenced part of Metro Atlanta (Gwinnett County) and have suffered through one mediocre Charlotte Mexican joint after another since we each moved here four years ago. We were craving Mexican one night last weekend, and my Google Maps Droid app happened to list Three Amigos/ La Casa de las Enchiladas first. I read the reviews, and we dragged the boyfriends out to give it a shot.
We were so impressed! The salsas were spicy and fresh. The chorizo and grilled onion cheese dip was out of this world. We wish we'd ordered one for each of us! The tomatillo sauce on my sis's chicken enchiladas was tangy and delicious. My BF's steak chalupa was the real deal. The chicken in my tacos was perfectly seasoned. We couldn't stop talking about how great the meal was--while we were eating it! Their Friday drink special is a giant margarita for $5, and it was great--not too sweet or neon green. Cantina 1511 and La Paz got nothin' on this food! It's a hole in the wall--the ambience wasn't crafted by an interior designer, but it was clean, the service was great, the food was AMAZING, and the douche factor (my biggest complaint about Charlotte restaurants) was nil. It was like eating at your Mexican grandmother's house for dinner. I can't wait to go back.

Not my favorite place.
I ran in the other day for a lunch meeting with a client of mine. I will never go back. The only reason I felt like giving it 2 stars is out of hope they get it together.
Like I said, it was a meeting, and the place wasn't very busy, around 12:45 or so, we thought it would be a fun dive, hole in the wall little restaurant. It wasn't. It was dirty, and the menu we had to read, had salsa all over them. Gross. The food, well, it was ok. The sweet tea wasn't sweet, and I like my sweet tea, so that was a big turn off for me.
All n all Probably will not go back anytime soon. There are a lot of great Mexican places around Charlotte, this isn't one of them.

Wonderful authentic food.
We discovered this restaurant by accident. It looks like a hole in the wall, but the food is absolutely delicious. And very fresh. I was surprised at how fresh the chicken is. The food is not drowned in tons of cheese like many other Mexican restaurants--instead the flavors of the food are able to come out.
While the staff does not speak much English, they are very willing to work with you to figure out what you want. The menu also has lots of pictures. I would recommend the enchiladas verdes--delicious!!
