The BEST Spicy Tuna Roll!.
I have tried several specialty rolls and a couple different entrees and everything has been delicious. But after trying their simple take on the spicy tuna roll, I can't seem to order anything else. The tuna is like a pureed consistency rather then a chunk of rare tuna like most places. And there are some sort of rice crunchies in the mix to add a nice crunchy texture. It is simple, delicious, and only 4.99. They have awesome lunch specials during the week where you get 2 rolls (12 pieces) and soup or salad for 7.99. DEAL!
They recently changed up the interior by making it feel a bit "swankier". Personally I preferred it the way it was with the warm colors and cool alternative music to the new tile walls and contemporary music. Oh well. Spicy tuna is still delicious.
Good Small Relaxed Chinese/Sushi Place.
All in all, I have always had a decent experience at Ginbu. It is a nice local (pretty small for restaurant standards) on Providence in Myers Park. I order lunch from here quite often and always the products are very fresh and consistent. As for sushi, I have never had a bad piece here, the only concern I have is that the rolls are quite small in comparison to Nikko or Room 112, which I dine at quite often. The prices are great for lunch, but for sushi, they tend to be kind of high for the small rolls.
For a nice get-a-way from the "popular" sushi place here's your spot. Typically its a fairly quick dinner, but last evening I had gone with two friends and it seemed to have taken forever to get our sushi and there were only two other tables filled in the place. No explanation, no offer that our food was on it's way, just silence. Other than the staff needing to work better on communication with the patrons everything else was alright.
Editorial Review. Located in Charlotte, Ginbu 401 is serving delicious Chinese food, sushi and sashimi.
Definitely check it out if taste is the driving force.. We went on a Saturday night around 8pm. It was not crowded as expected although there was a steady stream of deliveries and take out orders. We came for sushi although the menu is also typical Chinese/Thai fare - see their website. Servers were pleasant and quick to greet, seat, take our orders and refill our waters. The sushi - the first time I've had sushi not made by a Japanese speaking chef (he was speaking Spanish) - was quite tasty. Rolls were very flavorful and sashimi seemed fresh. Small rolls (one finger diameter instead of two) were a bit of a disappointment to me for the price, but the wife preferred their small size for her small mouth. Sashimi was sized like usual - stuff it in, hanging over the rice. A good first time sushi experience in Charlotte with prices a tiny bit high. We will go back but will likely try the other local places first. Atmosphere is 'casual' to 'take-out counter'; definitely not fine dining, but the food's good. Other sushi experiences in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Detroit, Phoenix, Boston for comparison.
PERFECT!! yummy sushi!. i just moved to charlotte from nyc and have been searching for good sushi in charlotte. this was DELICIOUS. their rolls are original, flavorful, and fresh and the sashimi was fresh and yummy. this is a good place for lunch or casual dining - not a super fancy, date night place or anything. but if you are looking for good sushi go here.
great place to hang out, good price on sushi for the great sushi they have. I am additive to their sushi, go there at least twice a week. Love the Crunchy Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. MUST TRY!!! Price is way more reasonable compare to Nikko. and quality is definitely way better than RuSan. Since my boyfriend hates sushi, I could take him there and he could order his chinese while I am enjoying my rolls. Servers might be casual and seem to be inexperienced, but they are truly friendly. NOW they are using real cups and silverware, it's definitely a PLUS!!!!!!!!!
HOSPITALITY IS SERIOUSLY LACKING. THIS PLACE SUCKED... drinks served in styrophome cups!!! average sushi at best.. and worst of all the hospitality was lacking!!! I got there about 30 minutes before close... probably got my sushi and bottle of wine about 15 min to close and the waitress told us 5 minutes before close that she wrapping things up and cld she close our tab?? Fine, but I'm not chugging my wine nor am I shoving sushi down my throat so you can leave... then about 20 minutes later the manager came to our table saying that we had to leave because they've been closed for 20 minutes already... OMG!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I'm sorry but I was always under the impression that a customer was served and not harrassed to leave even if they walked in the door 1 minute before closing... if you want sit, relax and enjoy your dinner ... then i would highly avoid this place!!!
Plastic Spoons, Plastic Containers and and $80 Dinner? Cummon!. A new sushi bar within a quick stop of NIKKO Sushi Bar (Dilworth) has a lot to live up to. $8 wine (no full bar) to start, and water in a STYROFOAM CUP! Miso Soup was a bit too seaweed heavy and arrived with disposable plastic spoons. Ginger Dressing Salad arrived prepackaged in a plastic lidded container (think Harris Teeter Deli Case), and another plastic utensil. The sushi was not bad. Not great. I always try the Eel Nigiri, some house specialty, and Spicy Tuna when I'm trying a new sushi place. The eel was pretty good. The Spicy Tuna was okay (nothing special). By the way, the waitress never cleared any of the plates or soup bowls! I hate that. We wound up stacking them up and asking them to be taken away. Maybe their niche is take-away. Eat-in has some work to do before I'd spend another $80 on dinner here. Suggestion: Install a wall or separation between the middle tables to make more intimate dining experience. It felt like we were eating an expensive meal in a deli. AND LOSE THE PLASTIC FORKS AND STYROFOAM CUPS at dinner time!
