Dishonest

Without warning Peak closed its location in Winston-Salem. 2 days before closing down we were sent a letter informing us they filed for chapter 11 and included a coupon for a 2 month free trial membership. I was 11 months into a 3 year prepaid membership when they shut down. Don't join. Don't trust Peak. I only gave them 1 star because 0 was an option.
- Pros: good while it lasted
- Cons: mendacious thieves
Beware: Some trainers are constantly seeking new business, and they don't mind bothering patrons to do it.

This gym is OK. I don't use the locker room much, but it seems relatively clean. The front desk staff are relatively helpful. Some of the trainers are nice. Equipment is adequate, though not as good as gyms such as the YMCA. But ...
I was fortunate enough to pay a reasonable rate upfront for my membership. Folks who have their accounts drafted report lots of problems. (Check the BBB's Web site for information on that -- the organization gives Peak an 'F').
My beef, however, is with the trainers who, particularly this time of year, walk up to people who are working out and attempt to solicit business. Yes, I know I have about 30 pounds to lose, but I don't need harassment every time I go to the gym. I pay for membership; I know personal training is available.
I will be joining the YMCA when my contract expires, even though the Y is more expensive.
- Pros: You can sometimes get a reasonable rate.
- Cons: Some trainers are annoyingly aggressive in their salesmanship, known customer service issues
Poor Client Service

I joined at the Moorehead location with the understanding that I would use the women's only location at the Arboretum. I also made the mistake of signing up with a trainer. Professional Fitness is the company that works out of Peak Fitness. I was not advised that Professional Fitness is a totally different company from Peak Fitness. Peak fitness closed the all women's location within 2 months of my joining. They did not advise me that they planned to do this before I signed up. They did promise to have a women's only section at the Pineville and Matthews's location by the end of July. They still do not have a women's only section at either location. Unfortunately Professional Fitness is not able to keep employees. I usually spend 4-6 weeks with one and then they leave. I have not had a trainer in over 2 weeks as no one will assist me in getting scheduled with a new one. They do however still debit my account without providing a service. It's difficult to stay motivated, Peak Fitness and Professional Fitness certainly do not do their part in making it easier. Don't make the mistake I did especially with signing on with Professional Fitness.
- Pros: To date none
- Cons: Everything
