Nice Atmosphere, Expected More

Before I get battered by all of the 5 star reviewers who give it perfect marks, let me say I probably had unreal expectations going into the dinner, which is why I am giving it my rating.
Had dinner with a few friends the other evening at Greek Isles for the first time. All I ever hear about this place, no matter who, is how great it is and "you've gotta try it", so needless to say I was expecting the world from this visit, unfortunately I should have taken my expectations down a notch, and may have been more impressed.
As an appetizer, I had ordered the Saganaki (Flaming Cheese) which was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Although it had great flavor, the cheese was barely melted and stuck to the plate, making it a chore to get it off for your bread. Also the portion was quite small, not making it much of a value.
On to the main course which was the special of the evening, Chilean Sea Bass, pan seared with Garlic mashed potatoes, a Mediterranean salad and asparagus ( I know not very Greek, but it sounded good). The Sea Bass was cooked well, but was somewhat tempura battered which gave the outside a wierd "I want to be crunchy, but I've been soaking in this Mediterranean salad for a couple minutes so I'm not". The potatoes were nice and flavorful and surprisingly light. The Mediterranean salad was a refreshing component which complimented the fish well.
As for my girlfriend, she ordered a Greek chicken pasta dish, which she seemed to enjoy, but just lacked flavor and depth in my mind. It had an unappealing pea greenish color and the taste left me saying "what's going on here"
The service was alright. The waitress had awkward moments where she would stand at the table waiting for someone to say something after all our orders were taken, and didn't have much of a personality. Not a huge factor in my review, as I didn't go there because people told me the service was out of this world, but instead that the food was supposed to be.
In the end I'm glad I tried it, I have not had much Greek food in my life and it was a good experience to see all they had to offer. I may go back, but not anytime in the near future.
- Pros: Nice Atmosphere, Cultural Specific Dishes, Large Portions
- Cons: Service, Was Expecting A Lot More

Greek Isles is an amazing restaurant and it is my new favorite place to go. If you love the greek festival but are sad that it only comes once a year, THIS is the place for you. It has an amazing menu for greek foodies and even for those who just want a good meal in a great atmosphere... order the "flaming cheese!" I love this place!
- Pros: amazing food, great family owned restaurant, good prices
- Cons: NONE
Great food and atmosphere

We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at the Greek Isles. The food was great, the Kalamarakia were excellent and prepared differently than I've ever eaten them anywhere else, and very fresh--and the bread was incredibly addictive!! They bake their own bread and it's authentic Greek! Dessert was perfect...Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for delicious food.
- Pros: unique Greek dishes
