A Relaxing Atmosphere with True Professionals. I know each time I visit a Modern Salon, I will be greeted with a warm welcome and smile. Although the services are top-notch and the employees are so professional, the atmosphere at their Birkdale location is anything but stuffy. When visiting their salon or spa for services, I am always shown where I am to go, they never TELL me. I am always offered a beverage upon my arrival and usually several times during my appointment. I truly feel like they care. Any service I have received (I've had highlights, haircuts, facials, massages and waxing) has been enjoyable enough that I couldn't wait to rebook for another time---which the knowledgable front desk quickly takes care of for me! I can't say enough about this great place.

Exeptional Customer Service. I had heard exeptional reviews regarding Modern Salon and Spa and I decided to send my Mother there for several services within the salon and spa. My mother was greeted with a "Good Morning Mrs. ..., it is a pleasure to see you today." She already felt like a queen! The rest of the day she was pampered and treated with respect and care. The quality of service was more than she has seen in both NYC and ATL. As a result, she travels from ATL every 6 weeks to receive all of her services at Modern. We are both very dedicated clients that would highly recommended anyone to experience them.

What a disappointment. I walked in about a year ago to see if they may have had a cancellation on a spur of the moment trip to Birkdale. Big mistake. The receptionist looked so repulsed that I would even deign to defile the salon with my presence. I spoke with her for a few moments to see when I would be able to get an appointment in the next week and it was apparent she thought I was way below her station in life and an insult for me to continue to speak with her. As I turned to leave, a very effeminate male made the loud comment, "WE WILL NEVER SEE HER AGAIN" before I was even out the door. I called later to cancel my appointment and then telephoned someone at the main office (I think it was the main office, it may have been another Modern Salon) to let them know why. I cannot even begin to say what a disappointment this was. I have never been treated with such disrespect by anyone in my life and it was quite humiliating. Not to worry though, the people at Varji and Varji are very kind and I am more than happy to give those smiling, polite professionals my hard earned money.

GO to Plaza Midwood area for spa services and expertise. I was never impressed with this salon.. Go to Georgetown Day Spa with Steve for hair, John Massage and MaryBeth for Facials. She is the best skincare guru in town.. I would not recommend Modern at all, the service the prices.. need I say more.

Don't worry-ask questions!. All of the Modern Salons are wonderful. The difference is the eye for detail. The owner trains these professionals on top of any previous experience they enter with. I have been to other city's Avedas and this one is superior. Now to assist those with "sticker shock ." Be aware that the more experienced the higher the price. Ask the person making your appointment for a stylist within your range. You won't be disappointed.

bad bad bad this is an aveda salon?. I just moved to the area and was looking for an aveda salon and found this one here on city search. I should have read the reviews!! I could not believe the unprofessionalism in this salon! the stylist spent more time talking to another stylist about a stylist that was working a few chairs down crazy I know. I can't believe a salon that charges what I was charged would have this kind of astmosphere. Call me selfish but when I pay $200 for my hair I want the person to listen and pay attention to me!! My hair doesn't look like $200 it looks like hair cuttery $10.99! overall the whole experience is one i'd like to forget but probably won't for a long time. My advice to newbies read the reviews and save your money don't go here!!

AVEDA uh oh!!. I have religiously frequented AVEDA salons in four different large markets over the past ten years and have always been satisfied. MODERN is new, so the atmosphere is well appointed and the staff is very courteous, and the quality was equal to past AVEDA salon experiences, with one exception. I had a simple layering cut and a low/highlight done and the cost was over $300..........OUCH!!! Why so high, I don't know. That is 3X higher than other AVEDA salons in comparable markets. This is my only complaint and I restate that the staff was more than capable and courteous.

Please, don't be discourage by this, they are very nice, but you can get the same or better quality somewhere else for a lot less. I will.

AWESOME!. My haircut with Betty is quite possibly the best cut I have ever received in my entire life! I just moved to NC and Saturday was my first time in Modern Salon. I won't be going anywhere else to get my hair done. I am going to make an appt. today to get highlights and I can't wait to try out the rest of the salon and spa. This was a great experience and I highly recommend this Aveda salon.
