The Scene – Featuring progressive American cuisine from Sonoma's Pierre Bader, this a la carte eatery is housed in uptown's luxury Gateway Village. The exhibition kitchen lets passers-by catch a glimpse of the action, and the contemporary design, with dark wood and floor-to-ceiling windows, creates a chic ambience. – – The Food – An assortment of tapas-inspired creations dots the menu; diners customize their meals by selecting from appetizers, main courses and sides. The kitchen's strength is definitely in the starter courses and desserts--main courses are rather…

Beautiful Atmosphere with Excellent Food
by BaileyBWP at Citysearch
This place is amazing, we just had a great dinner with great service. The food was cooked perfectly, and the menu is so broad you can really make your own meal. I highly recommend the Parmesan fries they are fantastic. We also had the chocolate fondue which is really great to share with someone. Though I wouldn't recommend sharing it with more than 2 people. The salmon was to die for it could just melt in your mouth. Our waiter was very friendly but not too pushy and he didn't hover over the table, he always seem to be there at just the right moments. Overall this is a great place, beautiful on the inside - if you like modern styles. The food is the best part and the service was definitely excellent. I have been here before and I continue to come back for the great atmosphere, awesome food and wonderful service.
- Pros: Ambience, Service, Dessert, Wine List, Modern/Trendy Atmosphere
Dreadful acoustics
by Otranto at Citysearch
Appalling acoustics and noise level that made both conversation and communication with the wait staff impossible. The menu is simple and the food is subtly and well cooked and beautifully presented--but we couldn't wait to escape the din. Not recommended.
- Pros: Perfect salads, beautiful plating.
- Cons: Noise was painful.
one of the worst

We had a miserable time there. five of us had a reservation for 7pm on a friday night. There were only a few other parties in the restaurant that night, so it wasn't that busy but it took took forever to seated and to get our food, some of the entrees were wrong, the rest were cold. the manager? offered to comp some of the food, but what was the point, it seemed as if they couldn't get anything right that night at least. i gave them two stars instead of one, just because I have to believe we caught them on a very off night. There is no way a place thats been in business this long could've gotten so much wrong.
Average for Upscale Dining; Nice atmosphere (probably best in uptown), but food and service are average.

Let me qualify my overall review, as saying ratings are relative to the class of restaurant per the User Review Guidelines. So, for an upscale, independent, restaurant within this price range, I am saying it is just average. I've had much better food and service at similar eateries (granted not within Charlotte, but I am trying to keep an apples to apples comparison so a 5 star in Charlotte is the same as a 5 star in Chicago or New York). That said, the atmosphere at Town is superb. They have a modern setting that is upscale but very comfortable and warm. This definitely is the place to be in uptown to meet up with friends, or just feel part of the local culture. The restaurant appears immaculate. I say appears, because I opened my napkin to find both utensils dirty (fingerprints and some sticky liquid). Service was very laid-back from the beginning, and I was there at lunch on a weekday with only about 20% capacity filled and plenty of servers. It took 5 minutes for the server to come to my table and another few minutes to bring water and bread. My pork chop was very bland and unimpressive across the board. I've had better pork chops at casual dining chains, and definitely better at upscale dining establishments. Presentation was decent, but presentation is secondary to taste/quality. I really wish this restaurant had met my expectations, since I am working and stay right next door to it during the week for several weeks.
- Pros: Great setting
- Cons: Subpar food and service for independent upscale dining establishment
Miserable experience!
by nativecharlottean1 at Citysearch
WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!! We had a group of 8 for dinner, had a reservation, etc. We did not get our first round of drinks until close to 30 minutes after seated. It took 3+ hours to eat, within that time we had only two rounds of drinks come, wrong menu items delivered, an exceptionally careless and rude waiter, and the list continues! While they offered us a 25% discount, this hardly made much difference. I will not be visiting Town again, and would not recommend it to anyone...unless of course, you enjoy a pricey meal not worth the time or money!
