Solid Choice.
I've been eating at Taipei Express for years, and they are consistantly stellar. You can't help but notice how shiny and clean the kitchen is when you walk in- sparkly stainless steel from floor to ceiling. A row of men in while aprons tossing food in & out of pans...fire flashing up, big woks spinning around... but that's not even the stellar part... the truly stellar part is that in all those years, ordering at least once or twice a month, they have never ever gotten my order wrong... not one time. These people have an attention to detail that is to be admired. We discuss it everytime we order from there.
You can eat in there dining area, but it's small and the seating is not at all made to linger in, so we think it best to call ahead and take it home. The food comes in these fantastic black plastic containers that do not spill or leak. I really appreciate their thoughfulness in provinding above average to-go containers. It's a huge portion of piping hot chinesey goodness, no matter what you order! The rice comes seperate, white or brown. Their egg rolls are yummy as are the crab rangoons.
They're only a dollar or so more than fast food, and it's usually enough to allow for left overs :-) It's not flashy, and there are no koi ponds or paper lanterns, but it's solid, reliable, enjoyable chinese food.
The reason I got a citysearch account.... Is this place...I was recommended by a neighbor when I moved to Charlotte. I was not expecting a lot, just some decent Chinese food. What I got, was the best Chinese I have ever had, granted I have never been to China, but I have been to Chinatown in NYC and D.C. and haven't had better anywhere. The vegetables are fresh and crisp, the meat tender and well trimmed, the sauce delicate and rich. I always get three meals out of one order so it is easy on the wallet too, but I would eat there anyway. Another, thing about the sauce...it never does that thing where it congeals into gelatin-like rim around your leftovers...I think this is a good sign. Go eat here.
Not just a carryout place....
I've always liked this place. It might be considered a Chinese carryout "joint" but the food tastes more like a gourmet Chinese restaurant. Styrofoam containers might be discouraging to some, but the food stays piping hot throughout the course of the meal.
The only minus this place gets is for the size of the dining area and parking lot. I can't bring myself to give them less than 5 stars for that piddly reason. I eat there about once a week and get there early to make sure I have a spot.
Great Food. Sesame Chicken is the best in CLT, service is always fast and the staff is very welcoming. Great value, a lot of food for the price!
Great food with Better Options. My wife has lived in Taiwan and Japan and has grown up on asian food. We've tried every other Chinese restuarant in town and we absolutetly love this one. Good friendly service, great prices, and healthy food. Not "too oily".
Great food and even better service. This little place is my favorite Chinese place in all of Charlotte. The people that work there are great and the food is NOT too oily.
All time favorite. Taipei Express is the best. I disagree about the customer service. They are very friendly and customer oriented. My family enjoys eating there. The staff already knows what we want to order and how my son likes his food. On one occassion the lady recited my son order before he order. Taipei scrimp if perfect.
Best Chinese Takeout I have found in Charlotte - A Lunch Favorite. The previous comments regarding customer service are totally inconsistent with what I have observed over the last 7 plus years of getting food at Taipei Express. I imagine the others are mistaking cultural characteristics for poor service. The staff are generally Asian, and I imagine there are some language difficulties. So do not let that discourage you. In terms of selection, it is generally what you would expect from what is essentially a typical Chinese take-out place. But the food here is much better any other comparable place in Charlotte, including the ones consistently given good reviews in this and other publications. The chicken entrees feature less breading and more flavor than most. Orange chicken is very good. The place is always bustling during lunch hour. Very limited seating inside, so plan on to-go.
Consistently good food.. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Although I wouldn't say their customer service is out of this world, I usually get take out and they have never been rude to me. The food is fresh, tasty, more than ample in quantity. You will crave their sesame chicken.
Bad Attitude. The people who own and work in this restaurant have a terrible attitude. They are very arrogant, never say thank you or have anything to say to you. While the food is not bad, they use too much oil in the preparation. Good value, but I would rather pay more and at least be acknowledged for my business.
