History. Mint Hill Lodge was organized in 1969 by about 75 members, who split off from Matthews Lodge. Wanting to form their own chapter, lodge officers requested a charter from Grand Lodge of NC(AF&AM). It was granted in early 1970 with he new lodge building being completed during 1975. A beautiful ball room, that may be rented by the public, adjoins the spacious, but private lodge quarters, The first Master of Mint Hill Lodge, Hermon Morris, Sr., was a guiding force in steering the growth of new members, along with J.B. McLaughlin, Earl Reynolds, Bob Phillips, Jim Black, Mayor Bobby Long and Clyde Frodge. Today, the lodge enjoys about 350 members, and is very popular in the community for its fund raising events. Traditionally known for its great dinners served before each meeting, many prominent citizens routinely fill the ballroom.
