Editorial Review for McAdenville Christmas Lights – by Sean O'Connell
The Scene
Since 1956, this charming little town, which lies along the South Fork River in Gaston County, has covered practically every square inch of its land with lights. Last year, 450,000 lights covered over 400 trees. The residents dress their homes with decorations and lights. The lake at the center of town is dazzling with 75 sparkling trees circling its banks. The luminous display has earned the town the right to rename itself "Christmas Town, USA."
The Skinny
This Christmas season, you won't find the brightest lights in the Charlotte area on the gigantic Christmas tree outside South Park. You'll find them on I-85, as thousands of cars, trucks and tour buses, headlights and taillights blazing, make their way to McAdenville. The largest holiday exhibit in the Carolinas, McAdenville draws up to 300,000 cars and buses from several different states.

I have heard about the christmas lights for years and never got to see it until a couple of years ago. I thought the display was boring because all the lights are the same colors. I know the people worked hard to get them up and I am glad that most people really like them but for me they were not what I had imagined. I thought it was going to be all kinds of beautiful colors with each house expressing their own unique personality. As I remember they were all a combination of red green and white. I may be mistaken but I think that is the colors that were there but I know they were all the same. I would say to go and see if you enjoy it as much as most people but don't expect to see alot of different colors.
Pros: Get to see what everyone is talking about.
Cons: Not very interesting.

McAdenville has been a tradition for us for over the last 16 years. My husband went to college in Charlotte NC and discovered McAdenville. When we first started dating he took me their our first christmas together. We LOVE IT!! Now we take our children there every year. Our son was born in mid December and he even made the trip at 7 days old. We adore McAdenville.
