What People Are Saying About Dixie's Tavern

The Scene – This tavern is a welcome--if not entirely locally flavored--addition to the uptown bar scene. In contrast to most of its neighbors, Dixie's has a casual, unpretentious atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome. Expect to see jeans and sweatshirts as often as coats and ties. – – The Draw – Both the menu and decor are designed to make you feel like you're on the bayou. You'll find Po' Boys and oysters on the menu and weathered wood on the floors, but don't be surprised if it's the attractive bartenders and waitresses that grab your attention. There's plenty…
Editor's Tips
- When to Go:
- Check out Dixie's happy hour on Thursdays, when they offer free jambalaya or chili along with wings, vegetables and a great jazz band.
You'll Surely Have An Interesting Evening

Where do I start. I love this place but sometimes am appalled by it..ha. Probably not the best way to give an accurate description of this establishment but it's sort of a love-hate type deal.
Dixies used to be the go-to spot for our group of friends, but I don't go as often any more. Don't get me wrong its a great time there, and a great place to let your inhibitions out the door. The drinks are plentiful and pretty cheap with two bars and the occasional 3rd bar/beer tubs.
The atmosphere is probably the most interesting thing about Dixies. In any given night you can hear 80's rock to current hip hop hits. Typically they have a DJ every Friday and Saturday evenings who keeps a good rotation. There are booths and tables which are great for people watching, and let me tell you this is definitely a place to do that. The crowd is mixed and you will have every type of people coming in and out of there.
If you are wanting an exclusive night on the town, keep moving. If you want to have an interesting night with a group of friends or just want to meet some new people this may be your spot. They do have food which actually is pretty darn good.I would suggest to grab a few drinks at home or somewhere else before hitting up Dixies to mentally prepare yourself for what you may experience, it's pretty tough for me to step in here sober.
- Pros: Unpredictable, Cheap Drinks, Good Group Outing
- Cons: Can Be Sketch, Not The Cleanest
A Fun Inexpensive Place With Good Food

I really like this place. I've been coming here for years. The buidling seems like it has been here for 100 years. It has a great atmosphere. The waitstaff is always friendly and prompt. The food is very good. The prices are reasonable. They always have some kind of drink special. It is usually not crowded weeknights. On weekends, it gets packed. They have lots of TVs for watching sports. The place fills up when the Pittsburgh Steelers play. It is a fun place to hang out.
- Pros: Good food, inexpensive, and a fun place.
- Cons: Paying to park.
Great Food, Friendly Staff, Great Music, Good Times!

I rode the light rail up from South End and stopped by Dixie's Tavern. The food was awesome and the staff was very friendly. It got crazy in there being a Saturday night, but the bar staff was fast at getting me my drink and my friends and I had a great time. We would reccomend this place to everyone looking to have a good time.
- Pros: Service, Ambience, Music, Staff,
- Cons: Have to pay to park on the weekends
Dixie's Tavern!!!!

Dixie's Tavern just became my new favorite bar!! I hadn't been there in awhile and went back to check it out. They had a great DJ and even had room to dance!! Even though is was packed the bartenders did a great job getting my drink quickly. I haven't sampled the food yet, but I have heard it was great. Great weekend or after work hang-out, Dixie's always shows you a good time!!

Dixie's is a good college type bar for those looking for a release on a Friday night. Expect to hear the same music if you come more than once as the DJ apparently has a limited cd book or has yet to discover Napster or an IPod. Still if hearing 50 cent following Song of the South and OAR this is your cup of tea; Dixie's is your place. Beer prices are not horrible ($2 Bud Select $2 Miller Lites depending on the night) however beware of the shot trap as you can run up a pretty quick bill doing so. Good atmosphere overall, relaxed and there are booths and a decent patio to hang out on if inside gets to crowded.
