Tips for Carolina Cinemas - Crownpoint Stadium 12

October 07, 2012

Older movie theater, but friendly staff, good selection of films, and great fresh popcorn! It was a slow weekday, and they offered to pop fresh popcorn just for me and a manager brought it into the theater so I didn't miss my movie! Close to home and no reason to drive further to wait in a long line somewhere with less personal customer service.

I was eager to take my two favorite fellas (my son and boyfriend) to the movie and dinner on Monday, because of the rain, we could not go canoeing, We went to the 3:10 showing of the Expendables. I truly want you to understand that I am not a person who complains easily. It takes a huge effort on my part to speak up when I am upset. I first want to say that I appreciate that your location is in a very dynamic demographics and that your theater is perhaps a little older. I must compliment you on how well you have tried to maintain the property, and certainly the economic downturn has taken a toll on all businesses. But I must say I was shocked to walk into the theater where the picture was showing and the smell of a "cat spray" like odor was overwhelming at the entrance of the sub theater-room where the picture was showing. As soon as the doors closed and you have a choice of going left or right past the trash receptacles, it was putrid and overwhelming. When we got to the seats in the somewhat empty theater, it was easy to see the chairs and the upholstery and floors. The chairs were sticky and stained and filthy. The odor was very strong even 5 rows in from the front of the screen. The only reaction I had was disgust. I calmly excused myself from my company and went to the concession stand where the gentleman there was taking food and drink orders as well as receiving all the admission tickets to the separate movies. I waited a few minutes until there were no customers around and got his attention. He was wonderful and told me that he would get his manager, a young lady with brunette hair. She came with me and walked in the area and said in exasperation, I have no sense of smell and cannot smell a thing. She said that she would get one of the other employees over to see if they could smell the odor. Then she said, I am not a manager, but If you stay until after the movie, I can "try" to have someone available to talk to you. I did not want to stay away from my family while the movie was just beginning. My son did put his head on my shoulder during the movie and complained of being nauseated from the odor and not feeling well. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant. I know it's hard to control things when so many people today do not respect property and damage things. It almost seemed as though an odor that bad could have been an act of damage. I don't know. But that coupled with how nasty and sticky the seats were... I just have never had this kind of experience at Charlotte theater. Especially with the cost of Movie Tickets today.

I believe it's important to have an opinion. But if you have an opinion to share and do not have the strength to voice it, you are truly powerless. I hope you and your staff will consider how remedy such situations so that no one has to pay for the extravagance of a comfortable theater for a special holiday treat and experience such a horrible and strange odor that makes them so nauseous that they cannot go to a special dinner after the movie.

Thank you for listening.

Lynn

A Christmas Carol 3D in Spanish ONLY!!!!. I have planned all week for a movie night with my family and we made the decision to go to CrownPoint Stadium 12 because they have advertised A Christmas Carol in Disney 3D. We have all really been looking forward to seeing the movie, me, kids and my mom. This was a first for us as we have never all gone to a movie together, and it was my daughters first movie ever. I packed the kids up in the car and headed to the theater which is about 20 minutes away from my house. When we got there it was about 15 minutes before the movie started so we had plenty of time for popcorn and drinks. I was appalled when I got up to the window to purchase the tickets and the guy stated that it was showing in Spanish ONLY!!! I thought he was joking at first so I said "your kidding right?" First off NOTHING in ANY advertisement stated that it was Spanish only (i even checked again on 3 different sites when I got home to make sure that we did not miss something). Then the guy at the counter was pretty rude about the whole thing and barely even looked at me when talking' and he acted like there was something wrong with me for being so shocked about the situation. I don't mind that it was showing in Spanish or that it was Spanish only it is the fact that they are not advertising this anywhere and the staff members customer skills were the worst I have experienced in a long time. It takes a lot of effort to get 2 small children and a teenager together for an evening out so I started preparing for the evening around 5:30. The movie was to start at 7:15, we were there @ 7:00, I was able to find another showing in 2D at another nearby theater but it started at 7:10 so by the time we got everyone loaded back in the car and drove there we had missed the first 10 mins or so of the movie. This was supposed to be a special event for us because we NEVER get to go to movies all together, and it was almost completely ruined by Crownpoint's false advertisement. Needless to say I am angry and felt the need to express my dissapointment with this establishment. As rarely as I go to the movies anyway I can honestly say that I will not be going to ANY movies at Crownpoint Stadium 12 EVER.

Noisy, old & deteriorating. This theatre is very close to us, and I really wish the seats would get cleaned at some point. The place has an old, dirty stinch -- although its appearance is neat. The bathrooms are usually neat enough. The tix prices tend to run higher at this location. Lots of kids work here. There's good parking.

Crownpoint Theater is super!. This theater is less crowded (unless it's a holiday like Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc); has plenty of help at the consession area. The theaters and bathrooms are clean.

I completely disagree with the man who said the screens were stained, etc. This theater is GREAT!

Clean, but be prepared for talkers and movie hoppers, plus the screens are stained. My wife and I used to love going to this Theatre and would have happily given it a 10, it was and still is clean and the patronage that it seemed to attract appeared to show the correct respect for others while watching a movie. This seems to have changed, we will, as from December 27th, no longer be frequenting this Movie Theatre, which we are very sad about.

Theatre owners and managers everywhere need to understand, that when a person pays between 3 to 5 times as much to see a film as it would cost them to rent a DVD that they expect to watch the movie without constant chatter from rude inconsiderate people sitting near by. It used to be that there would be someone of authority on hand to make sure this was kept to a bare minimum but no longer.

Movie hoppers who come in half way through and start talking and those who give no consideration for others and insist on holding a converstaion, treating the theatre like a coffeee shop are killing movie attendence and with the advent of cheaper large TV's and home theatre systems it's becoming easier to cut the theatre out all together.

Add to that the 2 big stains on the screen we were watching which showed up badly any time the scene was mainly white, tells me that the management here ahve stopped careing. Thanks for the good times CrownPoint and please let us know if things improve, We'll come back when you start to care.

Small Screens But Clean. This theater is disapointing to me since it is so close to my house. The main problem I have is for the hight price of a ticket you get a very narrow auditorium and small screen. Seating is good in the rear portion of each screen but terrible up close to the screen. Concessions are more expensive then other theaters I have been too. The positive is that this theater has been very clean each time I have been.
